One Direction TV special airs tonight on NBC

As if the upcoming holiday isn’t enough to get pre-teens and teens giddy, NBC adds another “OMG” for them to get hyper over with One Direction: The TV Special airing Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 8pm ET.

One Direction TV special airs on NBCThe special marks a first for the multi-platinum band One Direction, which was formed in 2010 after winning the U.K.’s The X Factor talent show (thank you, Simon Cowell) . The band issued the following group statement about the NBC event: “We’re really proud of our first TV Special. We had a great time filming the different parts both in Orlando and on the road in South America. We can’t wait for our fans to see it.”

The special gives an inside look at the lives and personalities of the band — composed of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson — through documentary material, comical stunts and performances. The special features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the band’s South American leg of their 2014 “Where We Are Tour” and follows them on the road when they recorded their new #1 album, “FOUR.” In addition, the special chronicles an intimate concert the band gave for a group of lucky fans at Universal Orlando Resort, where theyperformed a selection of songs from “FOUR,” as well as, some of the biggest hits off their three previous albums.

Combined amid the concert footage are some fun pranks, where the boys give unsuspecting fans the shock of their lives by introducing themselves in disguise at the theme parks, as well as the band mates interviewing each other aboard a high-speed roller coaster.
