“Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas” sings loud for all to hear

Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas

The 2003 film Elf, starring Will Ferrell, has become a holiday classic for many people. So much so that it was also turned into a hit Broadway musical. The story now has a third incarnation, an hourlong NBC special called Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas (Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 8pm ET/PT) which is based on the film and the stage production.

Following in the mold of past holiday TV classics, notably several of the Rankin/Bass productions, this special will be presented in stop-motion animation, and will feature nine songs. It promises an all-new retelling of Buddy the Elf’s absurd yet heartwarming story as he travels to New York City to meet the father he never knew he had.

Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) provides the voice for Buddy, with other voice talent including Mark Hamill, Ed Asner, Fred Armisen, Jay Leno, Matt Lauer and Gilbert Gottfried.
