Attention, Bronies and wishful residents of Ponyville, your favorite equines have a new ponyventure in time for Christmas! My Little Pony: A Very Minty Christmas premieres December 13 at 7pmET on Discovery Family. Make sure to set your DVR too: after you watch it once, you and your loved ones will clamor to watch it again and again.
The hour-long family adventure features two new songs that will make you forget all existence of a certain Disney princess with a panache for spewing ice from her frigid fingers — this winter, it’s going to be all about the ponies.
Since I’ve always wondered how the residents of Ponyville celebrate the Holiday season, I was glad that the special opens with the ponies decorating Ponyville in yuletide splendor. Who knew hooves were so nimble!?!
Drama ensues when Minty, a clumsy pony, accidentally destroys the centerpiece of the Ponyville Holiday celebration — Here Come Christmas Candy Cane (grammar isn’t the ponies’ strongest suit) — a glowing beacon that guides Santa to Ponyville. Poor Minty thinks she’s ruined Christmas for her friends, so she takes matters into her own hooves and embarks on a dangerous mission (in a hot-air balloon) to the North Pole.
For the uninitiated, MLP has reemerged from the 1980’s and perhaps even eclipsed the pony- popularity of my youth to become one of the top cartoons and toy brands for young girls. The series also has a very dedicated adult fan base, and the show makes sure to appeal to both with plots and characters that are kid-friendly, while including comedy and a visual style that are interesting to parents and the show’s legions of older fans. And who doesn’t love ponies, — they’re so stinking cute!!! (and the MLP merch is awesome!!)
And, thanks to one of the special’s adorable songs, “Nothing Says Christmas Like a Pair of Socks,” you’ll never again feel upset to find stockings in your stocking.
December 13 is a big day on Discovery Family. In addition to My Little Pony: A Very Minty Christmas, Discovery Family has special holiday programming premiering earlier in the day including: Littlest Pet Shop:”Winter Wonder” at 12:30pm ET and Transformers Rescue Bots: “The RIders of Winter” at 1pm ET.
Yeah for more MLP. My girls can’t wait for the new season to start. They are repeating episodes verbatum. Hopefully this will tide them over
