“Two and a Half Men” star Jon Cryer answers our 7 Questions

When Two and a Half Men returns for its 12th and final season on CBS Thursday, Oct. 30 at 9pmET, Jon Cryer will truly be the last man standing. Cryer’s gearing up for his final run as the whining, penny-pinching Alan, who still lives in his late Jon Cyrer from Two and a Half Menbrother’s Malibu beach house, but now mooches off Walden (Ashton Kutcher). Facing the end of this era, Cryer says, “It’s the final season. We are going to have fun with it, and be as profane and tasteless as always.

“With Walden adopting a child, it will be a heartfelt journey,” he continues. “There might be more of a heart to this season than ever before.”

At a CBS cocktail party earlier this summer, Cryer had some fun answering Channel Guide’s “7 Questions With …”

1: You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose?
The Economist, The Week, Popular Mechanics.

2.  If your TV carried just three shows or networks, what would they be?
Fargo. I still love me some NCIS. I knew it was going to be huge when I saw the first one. And Colbert. He better be as good (with the new late night show).

3.  What has been your strangest fan encounter?
A guy on Sixth Avenue handed me an enormous bud of pot about 10 years ago — before it was legal anywhere. I don’t smoke pot. So I didn’t smoke it. It sat in a baggie, in my kitchen. It eventually dried out and I threw it in the garbage.

4.  Tell us about a time you were star struck.
[Cryer raises his voice so Allison Janney, who is a few feet away, can hear him.] Meeting Allison Janney was the biggest thrill of my life. I will never get over meeting Allison Janney. [She turns around and they embrace.]
I love old Hollywood and I used to have an apartment on Sunset Boulevard, where it turns into Beverly Hills. One day I ran out and literally ran into Vincent Price! “Oh hello, it’s so nice to meet you,” [Cryer says in a decent imitation of Price’s dulcet tones.] That he knew who I was was just thrilling!
Another fun one was I was at a benefit and they were honoring Gene Kelly. Gene Kelly was my idol. I was sitting across from one lovely, older woman. She was a little flirtatious. The event was sponsored by Johnny Walker, so we were partaking in the spirits of the event. I said, ‘I’m Jon Cryer. It’s so nice to meet you.’ She said, ‘I’m Shirley Temple.’

5. What are the three things that you have to have in your fridge or pantry?
Some form of cheddar cheese — slices, rounds, bites, spray — any will work. Half and half for my coffee. And those little yogurts, where you get to mix in the fruit. That’s my excitement in the morning.

6. Do you like Alan?
I love Alan. I want to do other things, other stuff as an actor. Alan is a wonderful character. He is such a different guy now. This is like Boyhood except in sitcom form.

7.  What’s next for you?
I’ve got a film called Hit by Lightning that’s opening Oct. 31. It was fun to work in movie comedy again and it’s always satisfying to do a little indie that turns out so well. And after the show is done, I don’t really know what’s in store for me. I know I won’t force anything to happen; we’ll see what comes. I have no idea if that will take one week or one year.
