Dance Moms finale recap: Chloe’s Final Finale?

Tragedy has struck Dance Moms Nation! We’ve finally made it to Nationals. Everything else led to this episode. But what are we left with now? No longer will adult women appear on our screens to yell at each other about children dancing. No insanely pretty young girls will floor us with their endless talent and amazingly thick skins. Tuesday nights will become meaningless … just another long, boring night of the week with work the next morning!

… I may be getting ahead of myself. After all, there’s still the inevitable reunion special next week. And probably at least one Christmas special, right? And the Easter special. And probably a St. Patrick’s Day show or two. I mean, Abby and the Pitt Crew will never leave us, right? Er, right?

Before anybody freaks out (some more), let’s take a moment to appreciate our crazy season so far. We’ve had interlopers in every corner, a villainous “Select Team” trying to undermine our Crew every step of the way. Maddie did a music video and Abby won’t let anyone forget it. Cathy threw her rocker out a bus window on the way to a competition somewhere and left behind every last shred of sanity she may have once possessed. Christ-Y preached us the good, nutz-o Word of Her Opinions, and Christ-I preached the truth about Abby. Nia killed it in competition and Abby gave Nationals solos to absolutely anybody else anyway. Holly stopped trying to be the “nice” one and Melissa is getting ready to throw a chair at somebody. With all that, we knew this week would be explosive so let’s have a look at how it all turned out…

Even though there is no pyramid since it’s the middle of the week, Abby took the time out of rehearsal to line the girls up and tell them they aren’t working hard enough. With her “new L.A. studio” looming, everyone is feeling pressure to perform better than usual — especially the Select Team. They may never have stood a real chance of joining the team in Pittsburgh, but they might be able to secure themselves spots in a brand new studio. Abby, however, is not impressed with anyone’s performances so far and threatens to pull one of the selected soloists (Chloe, Kendall, and Kamryn) and put Maddie in instead.

Group rehearsals start with a fury. Abby is shrieking at everyone and all the dances are sloppy messes. The moms are mad at Abby because she hasn’t given the teams her full attention since she’s been out studio hunting … and they’re also very mad at Melissa. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked. Even though she spoke up in the arbitrary lineup at the beginning of the episode, saying she thought it was good to give some other team members a chance, Melissa still refuses to pull Maddie from the competition. The rest of the Pitt Crew corners her outside the rented studio and make her so angry that Abby’s most reliable butt kisser actual confronts her and starts swearing up a storm.

After group rehearsal, the girls begin work on their solos and it’s clear who Abby favors. Kendall is sweet, but at best she’s going to become the next Chloe (always second to Maddie, constant verbal punching bag, take your pick of indignities) … and the actual Chloe doesn’t stand a chance as long as Abby hates her mom. After an altercation with Christi, Abs returns to rehearsing Kamryn and insists that if the older, taller girl doesn’t win, she’s off the team. Chloe rehearses with Abby but her choreography is sub-par and she just looks tired and beat down. Christi attempts to encourage her, but Chloe makes it clear that she knows Abby doesn’t want her to win and it’s taking its toll.

The next day, both teams head to their final competition. Unfortunately, Cathy got there first. Instead of the cheering crowds that usually appear to welcome the girls into the competition space, they are greeted by a silent crowd holding apples high in the air. It may be a pointless gimmick, but it’s still annoying to think that people would even pretend to support the Apples at this point in the series.

And of course the shenanigans aren’t done there. Cathy’s entire final routine is one big joke and the ALDC catches on quickly. Cathy hired herself a So You Think You Can Dance alum to choreograph a group routine to Chandelier, which was the hit Sia song whose music video made Maddie more famous than Dance Moms. Abby is furious but no amount of screaming matches in competition dressing rooms is going to change the number, and Abby has to find a new way to get her revenge.

Abby wants to put Maddie in the competition, now using her Chandelier routine just to stick it to Cathy (conveniently forgetting that they don’t have the rights to the song and that it’s not Abby’s choreography). Maddie, however, decides she doesn’t want to dance if it means one of her friends has to get pulled from competition. Abby may think that’s immature but I’m pretty sure I speak for the entire Dance Moms Nation when I say: You go, Maddie!

Solos compete first. Kendall does a barely memorable jazz routine. She looks nice but it’s definitely not on par with some of her earlier choreography and no amount of cutaways of Abby looking happy will convince me she performed it better than Applause. Chloe performs her solo next. Again, the routine is very lackluster for a nationals routine but she’s definitely gotten more expressive from yesterday to today. She looks beautiful and performs the inferior choreography very cleanly. The pressure is on Kamryn to beat Chloe if she wants to stay in Abby’s good graces.

From the get-go, it’s obvious that this routine is better than Kendall’s or Chloe’s (and not just in a Christi-is-oversensitive way). The choreography is intricate and very detailed. Kamryn looks just gorgeous doing it and she is as impressive a performer as she is a dancer. Unfortunately, three days proves not to have been enough time for her to learn such a difficult number. She slips while running backwards downstage and takes an impressive tumble. She goes literally head over heels and then… we cut to commercial before we can see what happens next.

Of course, this all would have been a lot more shocking if they hadn’t been showing clips of the fall in every “Coming Up…” since last week’s preview…

Fortunately, Kamryn covers her fall and bounces back up quickly. Backstage, though, the panicked girl starts crying and Abby comes back to … give her a hug? The world’s most terrifying teacher hugs the Select Dancer and says the fall was “okay” and that she did really well and that she made Abby proud.

Seriously? I’m never in favor of Abby screaming at upset children but “no crying” is the biggest rule after “everybody’s replaceable”! Never, ever has falling (at Nationals, no less) warranted anything but a talking-to. And the moms definitely notice this treatment.

From somewhere nobody cares about, one of the Candy Moms walks past the dressing room while the girls are warming up. She’s wearing a horrible dress and playing Chandelier on her phone. All of the mom’s and Abby stand in shock at this blatant disrespect and Maddie takes it upon herself to drop into her choreography as soon as she picks up the beat. She finishes her number flawlessly and the Candy Mom-minion walks away, defeated like a video game mini-boss.

For the second time this episode: You go, Maddie!

Group numbers are, of course, next, and we finally get to see the product of Cathy’s weeks of bragging.

It’s a little underwhelming.

The poor kids are in ridiculous costumes. Like, a ’90s kid’s idea of what bad ’70s disco outfits look like. The choreography is good but not exactly mind-blowing and hardly even approaches “cutting edge.” Her kids are talented, but lack the drive of Abby’s hand-selected team from legions of child-star wannabes … and basically what I’m saying is that I’m disappointed and I don’t even know why I’m surprised. If Cathy is made of anything other than vitriol, it’s hot air.

The Select team is just gorgeous. Abby explained last week that the routine was designed specifically to cater to their great lines and technique (again, none of which was developed by her…) and it does its job. The girls are tall and elegant and the routine is near flawless.

dance-moms-finale-select-team

Remember how Abby conveniently found an excuse to yell at Sara and kick her off the Select team? I can’t imagine it had anything to do with the fact that she’s five inches shorter than everyone else on it and not nearly as experienced. It’s almost like the girls who trained outside of the ALDC are better dancers. How weird!

The Pitt Crew number is not to be shamed, however. Although the choreography is not nearly as mature, the girls handle the subject matter well, as always, and can pull points for tugging heartstrings. Mackenzie, as always, rocks her role as a murdered/abducted/sickly/kidnapped kid and Maddie as the tragic pseudo-mother figure.

The girls are appropriately creepy and the routine definitely delivers some goosebumps. Which means it’s all up to the judges now.

Solo awards are a pretty lackluster affair. Kendall only places ninth, but with that choreography, who can blame her? Chloe and Kamryn tie for fifth with the title going to the dancer with the highest technique score. Recall in days past when Maddie beat Chloe the same way? Abby ripped on her for that. I was preparing for horrible flashbacks when the order was announced. Kamryn in sixth and Chloe in fifth. If you’re keeping score (and you should be), Chloe has now beat Kamryn three times out of three. Boom, baby!

Group results are a little more tense. The Sour Apples only get fifth for all their bluster. Maybe they should have spent less time prepping dumb gimmicks and more time practicing? With that out of the way, we finally come to the culmination of this whole season. Who will win in the end — the Select Team or the Junior Elites?

Our Pitt Crew girls pull through. The Select team takes a close second, though, and the moms revel in their superiority for a little while longer. Of course, that’s not good enough for Abby.

Backstage, and before the girls return, Abby insists that Kamryn should have beat Chloe and Christi is livid. No matter how many times she wins, Chloe will never prove anything to Abby. As the girls file in, Chloe enters crying and announces that she heard everything Abby said.

dance-moms-season-4-finale-chloe

While Christi gather their things, Abby gives the Select Team a final boot out the door. The Select moms may be pissed, but, as Abby points out, their dancers have served their only purpose, which was to push the ALDC girls into the next level of competition. Well, the Crew has stepped up and the Select Team is no longer necessary. Let’s have a moment of joyous silence for the show’s worst gimmick yet.

The last thirty seconds are a heart-wrenching dedication to Christi and Chloe leaving without the team. Chloe says she still wants to dance, but she can’t do that under Abby any more. As the camera lingers on the mom and daughter leaving Nationals, Chloe cries as she says that the best part of dancing with ALDC is her team and knowing that she always had friend who knew exactly what she was going through after every rehearsal.

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

And that’s it, Ladies and Gentlemen. The end of the season. This is your last chance to vent about a regular episode for a while, so make sure you get it all out. Are Christi and Chloe really gone for good? Who’s watching next season, even if it means a move to L.A.? Who’s had all they can take? What kind of hell awaits us at next week’s reunion special? Let’s talk about it in the comments section below.

The Dance Moms Season 4 reunion special airs Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 9/8CT on Lifetime.

  1. I wish Chloe the best in her new dance studio. She is such a graceful dancer.
Abbey’s only interest is Maddie All the Mom’s should find another dance studio for there talented girls. Good Luck Chloe

  2. Ni surprise that Maddie did not dance. Since the first season anytime there was a chance Maddie would get beat she did not dance due to a punishment, or rest, or a fake nice gesture. When Chloe gets 1st, Abby tries to change the judges minds. When Maddie does not get first Abby makes excuses. Does Abby really believes this helps Maddie?

  3. HMMM I AGREE… ABBY THOSE GIRLS MAD YOU WHO YOU ARE AND AS FOR YOU COMING OUT TO TEACH OTHER TEACHERS…. HAHAH I BET FOR EVERY 1 STUDIO THAT LET YOU COME IN AND TRY TO RUN THINGS….10 RAN THE OTHER WAY ………I HOPE CHLOE DOES NOT RETURN TO YOUR SHOW … SO I DONT HAVE TO SEE YOU VERBALLY ABUSE THOSE GIRLS AND SET UP MADDIE TO WIN …. YOU ARE A MEAN AND SPITFUL WOMAN…. I BET BROADWAY BABY AND YOUR MOM ARE TURNING IN THEIR GRAVES………….OOOH DID I SAY THAT OUTLOUD!!!! YES I DID HOW DOES IT FEEL? WHAT YOU FEEL RIGHT NOW IS NOT HALF OF WHAT YOU PUT NIA AND CHLOE THROUGH ….

  4. Well, as the saying goes, “when the Lord closes a Door, some way he opens a window”. This is for the best for Chloe. They made the right decision. Poor little girl. Shes so talented and does not deserve for a monster like abby to bring her down. I danced for 14 years as a kid and teenager. And I assure you my dance teachers were not lile that. They were nice, talented, and encouraging. Good luck Chloe. I hope they give you your own show. You deserve it

  5. I will miss the girls but not the abuse! I loved to see them dance. It is so sad to see their faces become so flat! They no longer appear to love to dance. What a sad day for the Arts. I want to say thank you to all of them for the joy they brought me with their wonderful talent! Girls, God gave you your talent, don’ t let a depraved, abusive egomaniac steal it from you. Keep dancing and giving the world joy.

  6. As a retired dance instructor that taught for 24 years and danced at my grandmothers studio since almost 3. I am appalled at the network and Abby for the atrocity this show has become. Most certified competent teachers stick to the ethics of teaching dance to children. We hope that not only do they leave class better dancers but with self confidence and respect for others. And to take other teachers students, compete with them and kick them out the door is NOT ethical. They are already trained and just wanting to be on the show. It’s not because Abby is so special.
This show started about some talented dancers and has taken a dark turn. Abby is a disgrace to our profession and I don’t think her mother would be so proud of her egotistical ways. Shame on Lifetime to promote this abuse. A lot of competent studios day “no thank you” when told ALM will be there and not take the few measly tickets they give for the other parents to watch their children compete. It’s not reality but a very distorted view of the dance world. Mothers are afraid to bring their precious children in to dance anymore because of what this show has portrayed it to be and that’s the shame in this show. It’s hurting the dance community local studios. Visit your local studios and watch a class. This isn’t what you will see.

  7. I will be sad if Chloe leaves, but Christi is not one to be sticking up for all the kids like it’s been implied. She sticks up for all the kids except Maddie, and what’s worse, tries to pit the kids and moms against Maddie and Melissa. Abby is a bully, I agree, but how is this act by Christi not in the same category? Melissa is an extremely weak individual who has absolutely no backbone and it’s the reason all the moms walk all over her every week. It’s pathetic watching her each week not even try to defend herself. But it’s even more pathetic someone like Christi is allowed to belittle such an easy target and not only get away with it, but be GLORIFIED for doing it. There is no easier target out there than someone who doesn’t fight back. It’s absolutely disgusting how much free reign both Abby AND Christi are allowed in the show to treat people for ratings. Furthermore, it baffles me how people could say such mean things about Maddie, who herself is just a kid. She seems to get just as much smack talk from Christi and some of the more rabid Chloe fans than what Abby says to Chloe. Whether fans like to admit it or not, Maddie is the better dancer and proves it almost every time she goes out there. And how does she not dance from the heart? Did people not watch the Sia video?? Anyways, she goes out and gets results, yet Christi is just full of every excuse in the book as to why Maddie won and Chloe didn’t, and it stems from jealousy. When it’s not Maddie it’s always some other kid, and we get more excuses. She can never just say, you know what, perhaps today wasn’t Chloe’s day. Instead, each week I see people buy into the same EDITED excuses of bad choreo, mind games, not enough attention, etc. I’d say all of the girls get fantastic solos and it’s up to them to deliver it. Personally, I hope Chloe goes for her own sanity since she needs to get away from Abby, and Christi needs to get away from Melissa.

    • Nice try Abby or other insider of Abby’s. It is evident to everyone that watches the show that Abby has had it out for Chloe since she won against Maddie the first time (and for the wins for that first video, the Joffrey scholarship and the national title two years ago). She made sure that Chloe coudn’t compete last year and defend her title by throwing Christi and Chloe out. She was thrilled to have an excuse to leave the way clear for Maddie to win. Yes, Christi can’t keep her mouth shut and her shenanigans often backfire on Chloe, but to give Christi all the blame is ludicrous. I am now just as disgusted with the producer of the show and ‘interviewer’ last night. He cut Christi off because Abby had interrupted her and wasn’t going to let her keep pointing out the way that Abby had sabatoged Chloe. I noticed that in the ‘choreographer’s cut’ last night of last week’s show, that they cut out all the scenes where Abby said negative things about Chloe. Like telling Kamaryn that ‘you better beat that kid’ or else and then did the finger across the throat gesture. What kind of teacher is upset that a student got a higher medal because of technique. Then she snarls that Kamaryn should have won and Abby says on screen that she is amazed that Chloe won over Kamaryn and wonders ‘how she did it’ implying that Chloe’s somehow maniplated the judges. Newsflash! No matter how well a dancer covers a fall, it doesn’t change the fact that she fell. I totally agree with Holly’s and the other mother’s assessment that no way would our pit crew have ever been given a hug and a smile after a fall at nationals. Remember the way that Chloe was punished a couple of years ago for her hat falling off (despite thde fact that the choreography had called for the girls to take off the hats and throw their hair out…it wouldn’t stay on Chloe’s head after that…it certainly wasn’t Chloe’s fault it fell off, yet she was suspended and then ostrasized by Abby for weeks after that for it…but of course it was Chloe, so Abby was delighted to get to abuse her…she really does enjoy it…you can tell). Oh yeah…despite Chloe’s hat falling off, the girls won that day. Abby just goes out of her way to knock Chloe down and I agree wholeheartedly that Chloe’s current posture of defeat is totally Abby’s fault. She wants to kill Chloe’s love for dance because Chloe has won over Maddie and the way must bed left clear for Maddie to win at all costs. Oh BTW…Maddie didn’t dance because Abby was afraid that there was a possibility that one of better kids would beat Maddie, too. I mean…we all watched the dancing. Kendall danced well, Kamaryn danced well despite the fall, and Chloe danced well despite her crap choreography. If none of them got a top 3 it speaks to the caliber of the other competing dancers, too. C’mon. This wasn’t some backwater town in the middle of the country…or one of your in10city meets where some of the other competitors are just he local mom and pop dance studios that include kids that really can barely dance. This was L.A. where a lot of the pros come from. There is a LOT of talent there.
Anyway, Christi’s excuses of bad choreo, mind games and not enough attention is absolutely true. How about the irony of Abby getting mad at Christi for textin while she was talking, yet Abby regularly texts and plays on her phone when she has to work with Chloe in a private. I hope that Chloe gets her own show because I am yet another that will not watch Dance Moms without Chloe on it. Christi as absolutely right that most of us watch for the girls. The only thing I have ever throught about Abby is how in the heck the network allows her to abuse children the way she does…or their mother’s allowing it for that matter. I have always watched for the dancing of the girls. Abby takes credit for that, but the truth there is that most of the credit for the girl’s ability goes to her staff and even to her mother.

      • I agree with all but one point. The last thing Chloe or any of the girls who leave, needs is another tv show. They deserve to go back to being teenage girls, with school, friends, and just regular dance classes, instead of all the scrutiny and judgement that they and their families receive. I was absolutely disgusted with JC and Abby last night, he’s just as bad if not worse, than she is. Those two deserve each other.

  8. This is an unpopular opinion, but I thought all of the “You go, Maddie!” parts appeared really contrived. From the showing up the petty Candy Apple dance mom to putting her teammates before herself. Maddie has the talent, but now they are working on making her a more likeable personality. I don’t know if they can edit Maddie into being as sweet or someone to pull for as Chloe or Nia, but they can certainly make her appear less snobby and conceited.

  9. I watched this show to watch the girls beautiful dancing. I danced when I was younger, and I wanted to compare. I am hoping that all instructors are not like Abby. She may be extremely talented as far as choreography, and mostly everything that has to do with educating dancing. But she lacks the most important thing, which is to help give your student confidence. My teachers never put us down, called us names, or disrespected our parents either. There was no arguing, or fighting, yelling, it was totally different. Yes, we won titles when we went for them, but we also danced just for recitals, and holidays etc. We had fun and we learned which are the two most important things. Yes, our dancers went on to very big things. Chloe you are very talented. Don’t let this one teacher ruin dance for you.

  10. Last nights show left me with nothing but sadness. Chloe’s heart wrenching statement of the lose of her friends and team mates that back in season one, supported and shared their lives together willingly, really summed up what’s happened to this show. There is no joy left in any of the faces. This show started with a great premiss. A group of talented kids with some overly involved Moms. Those kids immediately garnered a large audience of supporters who cared about them and enjoyed rooting for their successes or failers. As in anything, there would have been natural rivalries and highs and lows to create real drama, not to mention the interaction of the Moms, but not outright cruelty. The real sacrifices these families all made and the travel etc. would have made for an interesting program. You can’t tell me the hours on the bus and in the hotels didn’t provide hilarious “real” moments and story lines. Say what you will, Kelly and Christi were very funny together. Despite the atrocious editing and manipulations of this last season, Christi was the only Mom who consistantly stuck up for all the kids, not just her own. None of the kids deserve any blame here. Their lives are forever altered and one can only hope for the best for all of them. The last 2 seasons have been painful to watch and the producers who created the ALM monster and the scripted garbage are responsible. I truly believe most of us would love to watch these kids in real situations and real competitions and once again be inspired by their talent, friendships and their joy.

  11. It seems Abby made a huge mistake letting a fantastic dancer go, but it was her intention all along. Like many others, I saw this coming when Chloe was excluded from the “Girl Party” video. I just thought it would have happened earlier in the season. I like all of the girls and wish them well. They are fantastic dancers, but the team is broken now. My heart aches for Chloe and her mother. Chloe had a genuine love for her friends and will miss them. I think the girls will miss her too. I wonder what girl will be picked on next. Mackenzie for not being her sister or Nia because her mother has started fighting back for her daughter? Jill will bark, but not take it too far.

As for Cathy, she got what she deserved. The “Heil Catler” apples were the stupidest things I’d ever seen. I still can’t believe those people agreed to do it (Dumb Cazis). As for the Mom with the Sia music, that song is Maddie’s no matter what she says. Glad Maddie rubbed it in that $!@! of a mother’s face. Good call, Maddie. That mom needs to go be a mother to her other children and stop running around the country with Cathy. Her son danced better in Miami.

Chloe, If your reading this, go dance your heart out. We’ll be waiting to see where the wind takes you. I hope it’s towards something great. Consider coming to Charleston, SC for our Spoleto Arts festival between May and June. I would love to see you dance with the joy and happiness you greatly deserve. Keep your chin up and know your fans love your dancing and endearing disposition.

    • I agree with you. Although I think Kendall will be the next target for Abby’s wrath, she’s way too sensitive and takes things to heart, and her mother is a bomb waiting to blow. Also, Chandalier isn’t “Maddie’s” song, she has no legal rights or royalties from that song whatsoever, it belongs to whomever wrote it and recorded it.

  12. I cannot stand Abby I would never allow some one to talk to me or my child that way. Lifetime and Abby should be prosecuted for child abuse for what they put those kids through. Chloe is my favorite. She was emotionally abused constantly and even more so after Brooke and Paige left. They should get their own show. It should be about the girls and their dancing and leave Abby high and dry. Because she’s nothing without those kids.

  13. I hope Chloe goes to another studio, and gets her own show. She is a beautiful dancer, but with a teacher like Abby who gives her inferior choreography, yells at at her, and goes to the judges to take away her win, she will never find joy in dance.

Do you think I would enroll one of my kids at one of Abby’s studios? Not a chance, specially in LA, where there are dozens of great studios who have a great reputation.

I find it funny that Abby talks about who is going to the LA studio, as if it were so easy to move. All the mothers are married and have other kids. Abby doesn’t care, she has nothing holding her in one place. If Melissa goes, I predict a second divorce. Maybe Jill will go, she does whatever is better for HER, and Kendall. Or maybe, she’s expecting the girls to travel alone, because they’re 12!

Cathy, maybe you will win when you stop trying to defeat Abby, and start concentrating on your students choreography and techniques. Do you have an idea of how childish you and the blond mom from Miami looked?? It was really, really bad to look at, and sad that two grown women would have such a behavior. Guess what, you said that you were trying to get into Abby’s head, but she was not the one dancing, you got into the wrong head. I suggest YOU GROW UP!!!!

  14. When is if ok to bad mouth a child no matter who it is or even if you don’t like her abbyyou are a bully amean spirited one shame on you! Melissa shame on you to try to get your oldest child ahead and live through her even if it at the expense of your own youngest daughter same bad parenting.

  15. I can not believe the blame isn’t being put where it should. Chloe’s mom is the problem. If she truly had her daughter’s interest at heart, she would shut up and let the teacher teach. It is Abby’s studio and her rules apply. I can’t believe Abby didn’t kick them out earlier. Obviously, Lifetime made her keep them until the end of the season. No one would sit back and allow a person to speak to them the way she speaks to Abby in her studio. As far as the dancers go, the girls are judged each week and Maddie wins. What more can be said. Both are beautiful dancers but in the end the judges tell us what they expect and obviously Maddie delivers constantly.

    • They are under are very strict contract that does not allow them to leave the show. I think that it is finally over after this season. The most Christi could do was to make sure Chloe was away from Abby as much as possible by having her train at a different studio while not filming.

    • So it’s not ok for Christi to speak to Abby the way she does, but it’s ok for Abby to speak (read: yell) to Chloe and the other girls like she does? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. If Abby wasn’t so horrible to Chloe, I’m sure Christi would act a lot different. She’s taking up for her child. Someone needs to give the poor girl confidence because she sure as hell doesn’t get any from Abby. Sometime I do feel like Christi does go a little too far, but look at what she’s had to deal with. It can’t be easy to sit there and watch someone do that to your child day after day. A person/parent can only take so much. Of all the mothers, she’s the only one who isn’t afraid to speak up to Abby and doesn’t kiss her ass and that’s why Abby doesn’t like her or Chloe. As far as the competitions go…it’s a little hard to win when you barely have mediocre choreography and a dance teacher that rooting against you. Also, notice how Abby never puts Maddie in a situation where she could possibly lose. Not once did you ever have to go against Sophia or Kalani. Guess who did…Chloe. It’s easy to win when your dance teachers hand picks your competition. Not saying that maddie isn’t an amazing dancer, because she is. All I’m saying is that Abby makes sure she will not lose. She doesn’t enter her in solos if there is a chance that someone from her studio or another studio could possibly beat her.

    • shame on you! Are you a mom? If not, you don’t know how it feels to have a child being ripped apart by a teacher. If you are a mom, your protective instincts are way off. I watched Abby drown Chloe with her cruel remarks, weak choreography, and many attempts to sabotage or rob a win from one her own dancers. I agree, Maddie delivers many wins because good routines were given to her. Chloe also won when good choreography was given to her. Furthermore, she even won when Choreography below her full potential was given to her. Her national title two years ago had choreography that wasn’t as good as Maddie’s, and she still won. Since then, Chloe’s choreography has been obviously below many of the dancers during competitions. To inflict anger and extreme cruelty on a child because of the parent is immature, low, and vulgar. It seems the only dance teacher who gave Chloe any positive encouragement was Abby’s mother. That legacy is gone forever.

      • Amen! As a retired dance instructor that taught for 24 years and danced at my grandmothers studio since almost 3 I am appalled at the network and Abby for the atrocity this show has become. Most certified competent teachers stick to the ethics of teaching dance to children. We hope that not only do they leave class better dancers but with self confidence and respect for others. It’s hurting the dance community local studios. Visit your local studios and watch a class. This isn’t what you will see.

    • Are you watching the same show that I watch? Good grief! Christi is not the problem it’s abby. Abby is a bully. You do not talk down to children the way she does. Maddie wins because she gets the better choreography. All the girls are beautiful dancers but they will live in maddie shadow as long as they stay at the Aldc. They should leave abby and maddie and get their own show

  16. I just deleted Dance Moms from my list of shows to be recorded each week and have no intention of watching any new reincarnation in LA. I cannot watch Abby’s favoritism and cruelty any longer, not even fast forwarding through the worst of it to see the girls dance.

Her negativity and downright sabotage of Chloe is intolerable. Chloe is an amazing dancer and very talented and sweet young lady. Imagine what she could achieve with a supportive teacher. I hope she finds a place to pursue her love of dance where her talents will flourish. Yes, I would watch a show that included Chloe, but I’m done with Abby.

    • I’m done with Dance Moms also. I really don’t see what is so special about Maddie. My favorite dancer in Chloe. She is a class act….a beautiful, talented young woman.

      • A friend of mine took a master class with Chloe and Blake McGrath and said that Chloe AND her mother were absolute dolls, very sweet, gracious and more than willing to talk about what happened at that horrible studio. Chloe said that she would rather just get back to her regular life, school, dance CLASSES and spending time with her friends, not another television show. I think that would be best for ALL of the girls, let them get back to their normal lives (or as normal as they can be after all the hoopla of being on tv for the last 4 years), and hope that this experience hasn’t ruined the love of dance for them.

        • I think I read they are under a six year contract and can’t leave without legal ramifications. Such a shame.

        • No surprise there. I knew they both were very good and nice people. Chloe will always be my favorite dancer. She may not want to do TV anymore, but I would love to see her most recent dance routines on Youtube. I’ll watch them. The one of her taking off her “dark” make up that she was constantly being portrayed as on the show seemed like a release for her. She was able to show her true joy, endearing personality, and finally seeing herself for who she really is. Chloe is likeable and loved by many.

          • See the only problem with her putting videos of her dances from the show on youtube is that DM owns the rights to them, so she’d be in direct violation of copyrights. Unless she choreographs some herself, or gets permission from another instructor, she may not be able to do that. Catch 22, the show that made her a star (according to Abby), she has absolutely no claim to once she leaves.

    • I agree 100%. I will not watch Abby’s show any longer. I love watching Chloe dance. And with the right choreography and better instruction, I think she would beat Maddie any day of the week. It is so sad what Abby has done to this child. I do not know how ANYONE could sabotage a child the way Abby had done so to Chloe.
I would understand why Chloe would not want to dance with a TV show again. But would love to see her on a different show with a dance teacher worthy of her talents and her personality.

    • I agree! Without sweet, talented Chloe, I’m totally done with Dance Moms! It’s been like nails on a chalkboard this season….no joy, just downright depressing to see such talented girls get beaten down each week. If I hear Abby say, “Who will be my #2 when Maddie is away?” one more time, I think I’ll scream! No thanks….time to push that delete button!

      • I think “who will be Maddie when Maddie is away” is Abby’s new catchphrase. It has replaced “everyone is replaceable.”

        • That is so true! If you were watching during part 1 of this long season, you will remember that she had at least 2 (or 3) inner competitions for the coveted ‘who will be Maddie when Maddie is away.’ Chloe won them all. Abby had to keep doing them until Chloe didn’t win because Abby couldn’t let Chloe be Maddie…especially since Chloe now dances in the teen age group. It was cruel of her to include Chloe in those constests..have her win and then run the same contest the next week so that Kendall or one of the select team could rise to beat Chloe. I knew that Abby would never allow Chloe to be in the forefront.

  17. I think I’m speaking for all the dance moms fans out there when I say that without Chloe, dance moms won’t be worth watching. I could see this coming. Abby has to realize that she can’t keep treating Chloe like this. She did exactly the same with Paige and Brooke – always putting them down. And what’s worse, Chloe is (in my opinion) the most talented dancer in the studio. I’m not saying this to put down Maddie at all and I think Maddie is amazing, but Chloe just has something about her and I know if she had the attention that Maddie got, she could be one of the best dancers out there. I think Brooke was also an extremely talented dancer and even though Paige wasn’t the best there, all three of the girls who have left because of Abby were crucial members of the team and the show will never be the same without them.
I also feel really sorry for Mackenzie. Although Abby is quite nice to her, I hate how she is always referred to as Maddie’s little sister and not as Mackenzie. Sure, Maddie was better at lyrical and things at her age, but I’m sure Maddie wasn’t doing back tucks when she was 8 like Mackenzie could do at that age. They just have different styles of dancing.
Although Jill always rants on about Kendall not getting a chance, I think that Kendall has become one of Abby’s favorites (after Maddie, obviously.)
I hated when Abby said (quite a while back) ‘everyone’s replaceable…. except Maddie of course.’ It’s not only that Abby loves Maddie, she also hates anyone who could possible win against her. Ever since Chloe beat Maddie at Nationals, Abby’s been giving Chloe some really bad choreography just to see her lose. I don’t think Abby should take out her anger at Christi on Chloe.
Abby needs to stop picking on the girls – first it was Paige and Brooke and they left, then it was Chloe and she left, next it will probably be Nia (who I think is actually really good considering she is left-legged and always has to dance on her bad side in group dances.) I won’t be surprised if Abby just ends up with only Maddie and Mackenzie on her group (and maybe a couple of newbies who won’t stay around for long)

    • I feel sorry for MacKenzie, because even Melissa compares her with Maddie. Next week I bet there will be a Dance Mom marathon, watch the episode of the ALDC Showcase. After Kenzies first tumble, she lost her balance, and when she finished, Melissa didn’t smile or clap, it was painful to watch a mother with no reaction, and backstage Kenzie was crying and Maddie was laughing at her.

      • I wanted to reach into the tv and smack Maddie for laughing at Kenzie, what a little snot.

        • How about that video last night? Even the fact that they are calling her ‘Mack Z’. Yuck! There was no sparkle on Mackenzie’s face. I didn’t believe her ‘when will it be my turn…’ stance at all. From her expression, I get the impression that she couldn’t care less if it is ever her turn to be Maddie. At least that song wasn’t so obviously auto-tuned like the dance party one was. Mackenzie did the best she could with an awful song, though…

          • OMG I know….poor kid has no idea what the real music business will do to her, she should have stuck to shaking her bum bum and cartwheels.

  18. Well…it’s all been said. I will also stop watching now that Chloe is off the show. She was the only reason I kept watching this long. I feel so bad for Mackezie ( I refuse to use ‘Mack Z’…Yuck!). The last few episodes she just looked sick from it all. No luster left in her little face. Imagine being constantly compared unfavorably to your older sister, being forced to lip sync to over produced and over auto-tuned (that’s what they use when the ‘singer’ can’t really sing. They used it on Brook, too) song. At least Brook wrote some compelling songs (if she really did write them). Brook also was a brilliant dancer, but Abby did the same thing to her that she was doing to Chloe these last 2 seasons. Gave her sub-par choreography and beat her down to the point of causing her to lose her focus and love of dance. I remember in the first 2 seasons that Abby vehemently defended herself agaist accusations of favoritism or taking out the hate of the mother on the dancer. Now she brags about it.

Lifetime has helped to create the monster that Abby has become. She always had the propensity for cruelty, yet with being rewarded with new shows (has anyody watched her ‘studo fix’ show?) she has allowed her worst side to be her only side now. Thank goodness they took away that other show where Abby and supposedly two other ‘impartial’ judges picked America’s next favorite dancer. I was thrilled to see Asia got her own show and really showed what it was to be a triple threat! She strutted her stuff and really sang and acted up a storm. I am really hoping that Chloe and Brook and Page get their own show. Don’t need to see their mothers, though. I definitely don’t want to watch the Abby and Maddie show. We have gotten to see more than one of Maddie’s tantrums. The first one was when Chloe won the Joffrey scholarship instead of Maddie. Another thing that made Abby hate Chloe. Maddie threw a tantrum over not getting a call, too. Melissa even threatened her with no TV and some other lame stuff to get her to stop making such a scene. They cut that tantrum from all subsequent airing of that episode. I think that the show was originally designed to be about Maddie and her hard nose but lovable instructor. Then, oops, Brook and Chloe were just as good if not better. Abby showed her true colors fairly early on, but there were still moments when she showed affection for the girls. I think the show has deteriorated into an inferior mess. Abby has become the very essense of cruel. Her original excuse of trying to teach the girls about the real life of a professional dancer has become a joke as she surpassed any credibility of what a real dancer has to put up with. I agree so much with the person that said that no truly good teacher would try so hard to undermine her own student. Abby’s hatred of Chloe as an extension of her hatred for Christi has become so blatant that I really am amazed that there has been no official outcry about it and nobody ever stepped up and said anything. I think that the other mothers (including Melissa) were really shocked when it came out that indeed Abby had tried to have Chloe’s win over Kameron taken away as she did when Chloe won against Maddie in that dance off where they both danced the identical choreography. One judge had supposedly made a mistake and overscored Chloe on one thing where she was supposedly only allowed to give 25 points and she had given Chloe 27, so Abby made a big production out of taking the win away from Chloe and giving it to Maddie in front of everybody. That was when Chloe won the hearts of so many mom’s out there…her gracious way that she handled it and even congratulated Maddie (while she barely held back tears). It was the beginning of Abby’s campaign to undermine, under choreograph, over critisize and just plain be cruel to Chloe. Remember when Chloe’s hat fell off? She was punished for weeks. Suspended and then ostracized during rehearsals to the point of Abby calling her Blondie and refusing to speak to her. Then she HUGS Kameron last night over the fall? Unreal! I truly hope that Abby gets some Karma coming around her way and soon!

You go, Chloe! I hope that her next studio treats her well and that she gets the continued training that she needs to become the very best dancer that she can be. She already has so much going for her!! Here’s hoping that Christi keep her mouth shut at the next place, too.

  19. I don’t mind the yelling during rehearsals to point the feet or straighten the arms etc. that’s going to happen in dance. What I can’t stand is how Abby let’s her relationship with the mothers affect how she treats the kids. She’s more immature than they are. It’s sad how Chloe has been treated time and time again on the show, I feel for her and I’m glad she got out of that environment. I have to say though that sadly it has had a real negative impact on Christy, which I think she has to work on. I understand fighting for your daughter’s rights but she became a bit paranoid. Don’t get me wrong I understand it but I didn’t like it and she shouldn’t either. All in all I think all the girls have a bright future in dance if that’s what they want. I really need a show that Chloe will be on though I want to see her grow.
