Don’t worry no major spoilers ahead, more a brief preview of the Outlander mid-season finale airing this Saturday, Sept. 27 at 9pmET/PT. After tomorrow’s mid-season finale, Outlander will be on hiatus until Saturday, April 4, 2015 when the second half of Season 1 returns with eight new episodes. The series has already been renewed for a second season.
Last week’s long-awaited “The Wedding” episode found Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) consummating their arranged marriage, in an awkward, amusing, endearing, exploratory and, eventually, passionate experience. The episode, however, first started with the 1940s stylish Claire and her handsome Frank (Tobias Menzies) walking hand-in-hand past the courthouse when Frank popped the question asking her to marry him. Now whether they did — at that moment marry — is yet to be seen, but she of course said yes, and it served as a heartfelt reminder just how much the two are in love.
In Episode 8: “Both Sides Now,” which is the mid-season finale, we’re given an agonizing picture of what Frank’s been enduring since Claire disappeared. Frank’s beyond frustrated, bitter and angered over the conclusions the Scots are forming after six weeks of searching — most believe that Claire has run off with the highlander Frank saw out of his window the night before her disappearance. It’s a desperate and dissonant Frank. Of course, life for Jamie and Claire after the honeymoon is explored (Jamie all to eager to learn more from the experienced Claire). Claire also is faced with an emotional quandary as a life-altering opportunity presents itself.
According to Starz, Episode 7: “The Wedding,” was seen by approximately 3.8 million viewers, a number Starz hasn’t captured since Episode 5 of Spartacus: Vengeance in February 2012. “The Wedding” performance also represented a 19% increase from the week prior, and a 38% increase since the series premiere episode in August.
