Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn to star in True Detective Season 2

Colin Farrell had said recently that he was on board to star in True Detective Season 2, and he was evidently not joshing — HBO confirmed today that Farrell and Vince Vaughn will headline the new season of the HBO hit. True Detective Season 2 will begin production later this fall, and will consist of eight episodes, the first two of which will be directed by Justin Lin. Series creator Nic Pizzolatto is writing the episodes.

The logline for Season 2 says this: “Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”

A little background from HBO on Farrell and Vaughn’s characters:

“Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”

HBO said it will announce additional casting for True Detective Season 2 later.
