Have you seen the promo clips? Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 returns on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 9pm ET on ABC. ABC released a two-minute clip of the season premiere, titled “Shadows” earlier this week, as well as, the following clip titled “Skye’s Assignment.”

Here’s a give a quick breakdown of where we left off and where we are heading for Season 2 of the popular drama.

Where We Left Off: The first season was a mixed bag, especially for the uber-critical comic book fan. After a slow start while setting up the show’s premise — about a ragtag subgroup of a much larger government organization created to keep the planet safe from supernatural and alien forces — the real fun began during the last batch of episodes, as discoveries of betrayal and terrorism led to the entire organization being disbanded. In the end, fan favorite Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) was named the new director and was tasked with rebuilding the group from the ground up amid a world that no longer trusts them, even as he and his teammates continue to confront their own mysteries.

What To Expect: Those developments alone would certainly set the table nicely for Season 2, but we’re getting a whole lot more, including new characters (Lucy Lawless as a veteran of S.H.I.E.L.D.! Joss Whedon vet Reed Diamond as the newest Hydra baddie! Comic book favorite Mockingbird!) and returning favoritaes (Patton Oswalt will be sticking around after all, as will Brett Dalton, whose Grant Ward character was incarcerated after being revealed as a double-agent last season). Plus, we’ll continue to explore Skye’s true past, follow Coulson’s possible alien-induced descent into madness, and continue to wonder if Fitz and Simmons will ever get together. (And, by the way, with Avengers 2 in theaters in May, expect some unprecedented co-promotional fireworks as this season progresses.)
