The world of the CW’s Supernatural has been unraveling since Metatron (Curtis Armstrong) has decided to become God. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) have been trying to do all they can to stop him, but there have been bumps in the road, one especially being Dean’s obsession with the first blade. At the start of this week’s episode it seems as though Metatron has decided to start a war, but Castiel (Misha Collins) has been keeping up with him because of the amount of angels that have decided to fight on his side of the war.
Unfortunately they still haven’t figured out who is the mole inside of Castiel’s group, and with the recent death of an angel on their side they have to find out who the mole is. It turns out, though, that not only is there a mole but there could also be an angel who has taken Castiel’s message a little too far. So the three split up, and Dean sends Sam and Castiel to look for the “mole” while he goes to look for the overly ambitious angel, Constantine. Dean gets a lead on his angel and finds out that the angel is friends with Tessa (Lindsey McKeon) — our old friend, the reaper.
The episode just keeps getting more weird when we find out that not only was Constantine walking around deciding to “bomb” themselves and the people around them in the name of Castiel but so are a lot of other angels, including Tessa. Dean interrogates her, and all that he can get out of her is that she has been working for Castiel along with other angels.
While Castiel and Sam are looking for their “mole”— Josiah — they key in on a place that is radiating tons of heavenly power. When they get there, however, it at first looks like they have stumbled upon a doorway to heaven but is instead a trap set by Metatron. Josiah has gotten there first, and when they find him his body is severely burned and he does not want Castiel to help him; he would rather die than owe his life to Castiel. He returns back to his headquarters and gets a call from none other than Metatron. Metatron had been trying to recruit more angels for his side of the war, and while he was bargaining another one of Castiel’s “bombers” attacked and wounded Gadreel (Tahmoh Penikett). His call really puts Castiel in a bad light, and Metatron even offers angels on Castiel’s side to come to heaven and leave Castiel.
Castiel is about to lose the trust of his angels when they ask him to gain it back by killing Dean for disobeying them. We know Castiel would never do that, and because of that all of his angels leave. We also know that Castiel would never ask angels to kill themselves for no reason at all. Of course, Metatron has been behind everything the whole time, and he is totally smug at how much things are going in his favor. As displeased as you guys may feel, Gadreel really isn’t feeling the whole Metatron thing either. Will he ever stand up to him and do what’s right, though? Well, at the end of the episode, Gadreel shows up at Sam and Dean’s and confesses that he now realizes that Metatron is up to no good. You can tell that he really does mean what he’s saying, but Dean is overcome with anger from the blade and stabs him when the episode ends.
This whole blade thing has become a lot for Dean to handle, and it won’t stop here. Check out the preview from the CW’s season finale of Supernatural below
