Tonight on RuPaul’s Drag Race we learn who makes it to the top 3. And so we are down to this – the music video for Sissy That Walk. But first Darienne has to clean. That. Mirror. BenDeLaCreme writes a book on the mirror. Observe:
After cleaning, we get Courtney throwing some shade at Bianca Del Rio and Adore Delano.
“Not today, Satan. Not today.” Thank you Bianca Del Rio.
And we’re down to the last episode before the finale, which is traditionally the music video challenge. Michelle Visage, not RuPaul, tells the girls about the events they will need to prepare.
World-renown choreographer Jamal Sims will put them through the paces of sissyography (which ends up being performed on a treadmill). Then there will be 2 acting components. Plus mother-daughter lunch time of super-filling Tic Tacs. And there will be an elimination, unlike other music video challenges. So there’s your twist. A not-all-that unexpected twist, but a twist nonetheless.
During the choreography lesson Adore and Courtney do well while Bianca and Darienne struggle. Darienne struggles the most of all. Could be that she doesn’t like choreography. Could also be that she’s distracted by a cute choreographer.
This week’s episode gives us a glimpse of why each of these 4 queens is in the top 4. Mamma Ru gives some one-on-one time with each queen trying to get the best out of each of them. We get to see sensitivity from each queen – some more than others. Courtney hears what Ru is telling her about showing humanity. She just doesn’t understand what that means, so she’s not going to worry about it. Bianca’s face gives her unbiased opinion about that:
We learn that Darienne was kicked out of her house at a young age. Certainly explains much of her defensiveness. Bianca claims that she came into the competition with no intention of mentoring anyone. Not sure if I believe that, but I never believed the whole “Bianca is mean” storyline. She’s always seemed very generous & sweet to me. Adore talked about her rejection from her father for being feminine.
After confessional/lunch with Ru/let’s sit around & try on wigs we finally get to filming the video for Sissy That Walk. Adore is watching the other girls try on different outfits. Outfits that she doesn’t have the money to buy. But she knows that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to be fabulous.
First up in filming is the sissyography; then an acting challenge as a young ingenue being photographed by a crazy Ru. Crazy photographer Ru is kind of awesome. He makes the girls pose and dance and bark like a dog. Like a hot dog. Until they just can’t take it anymore & start screaming. And acting coach Mathu Andersen is always awesome. He’s just toned down from his Instagram page.
And finally a second acting challenge with former-love Ru, also known as Charles.
All the girls do pretty well on the second acting challenge. Courtney decides that she can be ‘messy’ and not polished. Her version of not polished is my hot mess. It’s so far into messy that it just doesn’t work for the scene. Darienne starts off the weakest, but in the end she cries so hard that she actually pulls RuPaul back on stage to come and ‘rescue’ her. His face says it all.
As the the girls get ready for that final runway, they share their first impressions of each other. Surprise! They all like each other & they all were guarded about each other when they first met. Courtney also continues to share all of her ideas of what America’s Next Drag Superstar should be. I’m kind of over her.
On to the main stage!
Finally, each of the dragtestants has to give their final statement as to why they should be America’s Next Drag Superstar. Nothing too surprising there. This year also brings the twist of having all 4 queens lip synch for their lives at the same time. It makes it a little hard to follow because we’re cutting from drag queen to drag queen. Courtney and Bianca have never been in this position before so it would be nice to see a little more from then.
Not that I have any delusions that this lip synch dictates anything that RuPaul does.
In the end, your top 3 are: Adore Delano, Courtney Act and Bianca Del Rio. Darienne Lake has been eliminated. I was kind of thinking that Courtney might be going as she got a lot of screen time. Ok, I was kind of hopeful Courtney would go because I thought Darienne did better in the challenges. Girl got Ru to come back into the scene when he was done. And I’m kind of over Courtney. She seems lovely & beautiful but the Pollyanna vibe is getting old.
So next week we get a clip show & the premiere of the video for Sissy That Walk. Then the finale heads our way on May 19. Be sure to let Ru know whose team you’re on through Twitter or Facebook. #DragRace all the way around. I assume you should also hashtag your team preference, but Ru didn’t specify that.
Are you Team Adore, Team Bianca or Team Courtney? Tell us here below before you tell Ru!
Ruthie Ru!!!!
Can we really be coming to the end of our show??? Seems like just yesterday I realized you were my drag race soulmate and now that times almost at an end…but no time for sadness we must dissect this episode…
So….I was still DELA-stated goin into this episode but then I remembered the video you sent me and knew that she was ok, plus she’s practically a shoo-in for miss Congeniality (sorry Jos!) and if not that then you KNOW it’s on for ALL-STARS, not sure if she’d be on season 2 or 3 but I KNOW she’ll be on it, I already have some ideas for ALL-STARS season that I’ll be sendin your way before I send off to logo (I need quality advice)
Back to the episode…
Aww Man, they could have showed Darienne getting her clean on a LOT more, I wanted to see her cleanin that mirror and then the other girls walking out like c’mon Darienne, and she’s like “I still have 3 more sentences to go!!”, that woulda been hilarious, such a missed opportunity but editing this season has been kinda whack…a couple of things have been but we’ll save that for next weeks super ru-cap!
I Loved Michelle coming in saying she was my Bendela, I think its a sweet send-off to the fact that they’re practically totally twinsises!
Bianca: I think throughout this episode, as hodge podgy as it was (but I’ll talk about that later) she’s shown exactly why she should be queen, she’s not really faded by the madness and little quips getting thrown at her and she’s shown she has a heart which is something considering she’s an insult comic! From what we got from the sissyography she did really good, despite her need or knee-jerk reaction to make jokes she actually seemed to move really well and I wasn’t sure if she was gonna pull off sexy because she doesn’t view herself as it but if she embraced it she would be fine, and she was! The acting challenges were both good, it bears repeating, they were both good, I loved her look in the 2nd challenge, with the headband, I hadn’t seen that kinda hairstyle on her before. For the runway…it was eh….all the girls was eh, but I’ll get to that later. I think her reason as to why she should win the crown was the best, it was honest, you can tell she was getting a bit chocked up and it just felt…worth it. Like yes, you’ve done your best you don’t have to explain, we’ve seen what you can do and we love it!
Adore: This girl is pure charm. She definitely has the charisma that Ru is always going on and on about. But no joke, she is charming as all get out. I appreciate for the fact that despite repeating a dress and the wig, she wore them like she just got them, that is a skill that not all would feel comfy in but she OWNED her stuff, it didn’t own her! From the sissyography to the acting challenges I thought she did the best! Hands down, if this were 3 separate challenges she would have won all of them. Her response to the question as to why she should win was very youthful and ADORE. I’m surprised to how much I’ve come to like her but I think its a good teaching moment for life that if you have a good attititude it can get you SOOO far, way further than a crap-tastic attitude can, people will overlook and give you more lee-way if you have a good attitude and if they see potential in you cuz each week they expect you to do a little more than the last and I think she’s grown so much. She really kicked some a$$ in this last challenge and in the glitter ball, major kudos to her. Her runway look….eh. I did like the sequins but I hated the tights were a different shade than her cuz I could tell it was tights, she shoulda wore her shade or lotioned up and wore her legs but something inside strikes me as her being the kids with all the scraps on the legs and stuff! hahaha
Courtney: Well major shade thrown to Adore at the beginning of the show, saying she just had on a white tutu with a corset and some sparkles, coming from the girl who had on a red bra, a shawl, and some sequins! Glass houses ruthie…glass houses! Ummm…court was in the middle for me this episode, she’s floating through a few episodes for me actually, I mean she did step it up a lot more than she had and I did dig the horns on her sissyography look but I’m kinda weird like that, hahaha,. Her acting challenge was eh, not sure if se understands her critiques confusing “human” for “messy”. Her response to the question though was thoughtful of her and made a lot of sense, recognizing that she has the torch in another part of the country and wanting to continue it. I had no issue with what she said, her look was…eh.
Darienne: Well let’s be honest, we all knew this is was more than likely gonna happen! That being said, I know she struggles through the bits of sissyography and yeah she stole Adore move but Darienne looked great out there on that treadmill (she knows how to beat her mug!) and her acting challenge brought RuPaul BACK to the scene, how could no one mention that?!?!?! Yeah her response to the question was a bit read-y to the girls but I think she took the question as the question was posed last year with the girls having suppose to explain why they should be the next superstar and in the same breathe read the other girls (only Alaska followed the instructions last year and Ru/Michelle/Santino all noted she was the only one to follow instructions!) so I think she made sense, you know, kinda like you want me because “look at the other girls!”. Hilarious to the end, I did think her runway was cute, she went out the same way she came in, red hair and a blue dress just a bit different, and her exit by pushing Courtney out the way gave me a chuckle on her exit. Based on the challenge I honestly thought Courtney would be the one to go home but for some reason there seemed to be other forces in hand this season….
Some notes:
ok, was it just me or was this hour of the show kinda hodge podgey?!?!?! I think mainly its cuz there was just 2.much.stuff going on with 2.many.people. Last year it was 3 queens, 2 challenges, and a lunch and even that felt like rushing even though the episode was edited wonderfully to get everything we wanted to see. This year is was chop chop, cuz 3 challenges and Ru lunch, I felt like I didn’t get a quality last moment to get to know the girls, I hope Ru goes back to the other old formula at least for this episode with top 3, not 4 cuz its just to much!
Runway…was it just me or was it really, really, really UNDERWHELEMING?!?!? What the heck, this is last impression on Ru and the girls kinda gave me eh. I mean Adore dress was cute but I woulda swapped the wig for the one she wore during the animal realness runway, and like I said, NO TIGHTS or Nude colored tights. She was 4th on my list for looks this week. Courtney’s was cute but you’re telling me she had a freakin huge wig and she decided to do just a adorable dress and blonde hair, true Michelle wouldn’t change a thing and I wouldn’t either, she was perfection but if it was the last impression of the judges I woulda went out with a BANG, she has the skills to pull off big BANG outfits ya know? So she gets 3rd on my list. She ties with my Bianca, great dress, adorbz headpiece…same silhouette, not much shock here, need I repeat…LAST RUNWAY, c’mon girls! Darrienne even though her dress wasn’t wow, I think she was the best dressed out of all of them…best of the worst I guess but still nice.
The lipsync….I’m sorry Ruthie Ru…this overall season for lipsyncs has been kinda weak and this week was no real different and mainly because of EDITING and the fact that it was 2 much going on at 1 time, I didn’t know where the look, I mean WTH, last years editing was a lot better with the lip syncs!
Overall I’m #TEAMBIANCA mainly because she’s earned it, she deserves it, she’s been either top or won with a few safes sprinkled in, she did the competition right, its whats owed to her, she deserves the crown for doing what she was suppose to do: compete and win, and she’s done it more than the other girls! Plus she has a great personality underneath us knowing that she is an insult comic and can be witty and sometimes intimidating! I think Adore would make a great runner up, she has afew of the talent things to work on but she is a star and if Ru doesn’t issue her a ticket for ALL Stars then she must be sniffin to much of Michelle’s hair spray! Court…I know Court is great and refined, but she has just gone through this competition a little 2 faded for me, like she knew she had this competition in the bag already, I felt like she wasn’t working toward it, she just did what she does and she naturally progressed in the competition but I don’t think that’s deserving of 2nd place and I for this final challenge she should have gone home, was her lip sync that much better than Darienne’s?? I don’t think so, but I think the judges knew who they wanted in the top 3.
*Also, I know Darienne leaving probably had a lot of people cheering cuz she got the villain edit but honestly I was looking back, in terms of villainy she was VERY tame to other seasons, and quite honestly Gia was throwing more shade than anymore, had she stayed she woulda got the villain edit and Darienne woulda got the sassy edit. But I mean honestly look at all the villians from previous seasons, there’s a reason they got the edit, Darienne just happened to be really sassy and for the coming with her opinions so they jumped on it but she really wasn’t that bad…like at all. I mean season 1: Askasha, season 2: Raven or Tattianna, season 3: the Heathers, season 4: Phi Phi and Season 5: Roxxxy, now THEY said some mess, darienne was a kitten compared to them, so I hope people don’t come at her as hard since she wasn’t as bad!
As far as the runway goes – tons of people have been calling out the runway looks as just ‘meh’. have you been watching the Raja/Raven runway reviews? if you haven’t, you must as they are HILARIOUS.
I agree with you that based on the performances, Courtney should’ve gone. Tin hat conspiracy theory time – she probably had to stay through the finale because they’re hyping the show in Australia. They want that audience to watch the whole season so, in she stays.
Not that I think Darienne would’ve won the whole thing so it really doesn’t matter. But based on the performance and GETTING RU TO COME BACK TO THE SCENE that NO ONE talked about, I think she should’ve stayed.
Just wanted to say before you put up the new video, that I TOTALLY and completely agree with you on the tin hat conspiracy, u know the aussies probably would have a fit if Court went home b4 top 3, and not that Ru did it on purpose but the producers were probably like we can’t have an entire continent not watchin!
Courtney act should be the winner!
