Given that the summer movie season actually starts right … about … now, the MTV Movie Awards were bumped up from their traditional June slot to April last year. Now Hollywood could maximize pitching its wares to that young demo with all the disposable income and the time to dispose of it.

 

It must have worked. The MTV Movie Awards are back this month (airing live on MTV on Sunday, April 13, at 9pm ET (tape-delayed PT), with Conan O’Brien hosting at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Their unique and irreverent categories are back, too. (Jennifer Aniston should win Best Shirtless Performance.)

2014 MTV Movie AwardsAmerican Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street lead all films with eight nominations this year, and are up for Movie of the Year along with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and 12 Years a Slave. Other top nominated films are We’re the Millers, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Dallas Buyers Club and This Is the End.

Fans can vote for their favorites at MovieAwards.MTV.com through April 12.

A few other 2014 MTV Movie Awards notes and highlights:

Mark Wahlberg will be honored with the MTV Generation Award, presented Entourage cast members Adrian Grenier, Kevin Connolly, Jerry Ferrara and Kevin Dillon.

Jared Leto, Megan Fox, Jordana Brewster, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Rita Ora, Mila Kunis, Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Amanda Seyfried, Seth Macfarlane, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton and Nicki Minaj are among the scheduled presenters.

Zendaya, Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf), and MTV’s Josh Horowitz and Christina Garibaldi host the 2014 MTV Movie Awards live preshow on MTV at 8:30pm ET Sunday.

Ellen Page will introduce an exclusive clip from X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Musical highlights include Eminem and Rihanna teaming up to perform “Monster.” Ellie Goulding and Zedd will preform songs from the Divergent soundtrack. twenty one pilots perform their current single “Car Radio.”

E! will have a special 2014 MTV Movie Awards edition of The Fashion Police recapping all of the best and worst fashions from the awards show and biting commentary from Joan Rivers, Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and George Kotsiopoulos with special guest Nick Lachey. “Fashion Police: The 2014 MTV Movie Awards” airs Monday, April 14 at 9pm ET/PT on E!.
