August: Osage County A dysfunctional family in Oklahoma comes together because of a family crisis. The very different family members are quickly thrust back together with their matriarch and realize that life was never easy in this house. Despite dark subject matter, an acting master class is in session from Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts that makes this film worth a look. Top to bottom this has a marvelously talented cast. Also stars Ewan McGregor (R, 2:01) 4/8

Grudge Match Imagine two of the greatest fighters of all time coming together to fight 30 years after their last battle. Then imagine those fighters being played by two heavyweight actors. Kevin Hart is along to deliver plenty of comedic shots in this bout that sometimes plays fun. Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone, Kim Basinger (PG-13, 1:53) 4/8

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (3-D) Director Peter Jackson continues his epic undertaking of The Hobbit in this tale. Characters we love are back on the journey, including Bilbo, Gandalf and even Legolas. But the real star here is Smaug, the marvelously crafted dragon. This story moves forward nicely and sets up the next chapter, due in theaters in December 2014. Jackson delivers a visual explosion that will burst from your screen. Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage (PG-13, 2:41) 4/8

Joe An ex-con, who is the unlikeliest of role models, meets a 15-year-old boy and is faced with the choice of redemption or ruin. Nicolas Cage, Tye Sheridan, Ronnie Gene Blevins (R, 1:57) 4/11

Justin Bieber’s Believe A trip behind the scenes with the oft-in-the-news pop star from director Jon M. Chu gives the viewer a mix of concert footage and quality time. Chu directed Bieber’s 2011 documentary Justin Bieber: Never Say Never as well. (PG, 1:32) 4/8

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones Jesse begins experiencing a number of disturbing and unexplainable things after the death of his neighbor. As he investigates, it isn’t long before Jessie finds he’s been marked for possession by a malevolent demonic entity, and it’s only a matter of time before he is completely under its control… Andrew Jacobs, Jorge Diaz, Gabrielle Walsh (R, 1:24) 4/8
