What happened to FOX Saturday Baseball?

FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the Week 2013 schedule

FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the Week 2013 scheduleBaseball fans looking to tune in to nationally televised MLB games on Saturday afternoons will have to look in a slightly different place this season. The traditional FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the Week that aired on broadcast TV throughout the entire regular season has been cut back significantly. FOX airs only 12 Saturday games in 2014 (schedule is below), with an expanded schedule of games now airing on FOX Sports 1, including most Saturdays. FOX airs eight consecutive Saturdays of MLB regional games in primetime beginning May 24 and leading up to July’s All-Star Game in Minneapolis. FOX will also air four late-season Saturday afternoon games in September.

There are also significant changes to postseason coverage in MLB’s new eight-year, $12.4 billion TV rights deal with partners ESPN, FOX and TBS. FOX and FOX Sports 1 now get two of the four Division Series. The All-Star Game and the World Series remain on FOX, but Awful Announcing is reporting that the League Championship Series games that FOX owns the rights to will likely now air on FOX Sports 1, meaning the World Series will be the only postseason MLB games airing on broadcast TV.

In the FOX broadcast booth, Joe Buck will be joined by new analysts Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci. Reynolds and Verducci replace longtime analyst Tim McCarver, who retired after last season.

  1. Thank heavens that McCarver retired and for Harold Reynolds. Now if arrogant Joe Buck would retire early, I could stomach FOX sports. FOX NEWS is so damn arrogant driven by whiny GOP that it is trickled down to their sports stations. Jack Buck was a legendary voice but Joe’s voice grates on one. Time to mute the TV and put on Krukow/Kuiper for actual knowledge, witty and funny banter etc.

  2. Another sign of the coming apocalypse. No more “free” baseball on broadcast tv. Greedheads again reign.

  3. I think this really sucks. I don’t have cable because it is an expense I can’t afford so you take away the games both regular season & playoffs. The $ signs are just dancing in MLB heads.

  4. For people who cannot afford cable or satellite not being able to watch MLB games on Saturday, this totally sucks. Just greedy corporate America at its finest yet again.
