Joan Alexandra Molinsky, better known by her stage name of Joan Rivers, was a pioneering comedian (with a famous catchphrase, “Can we talk?”), rising to fame in 1965 on The Tonight Show. Over the years, she served as a guest host for Johnny Carson’s show, but when she launched her own late-night program in 1986, Carson banned her from his show. Rivers’ late-night show, called The Late Show, did not last long, but she was more successful in daytime with The Joan Rivers Show (1989-93), for which she won a Daytime Emmy Award. In recent years, Rivers was a fixture on the E! Network, co-hosting Fashion Police with snarky commentary on celebrity dress, and also weighing in with gossip and snark during awards shows. She also was part of the WEtv reality series Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? (2011-14), alongside daughter Melissa Rivers.
