Peter Dinklage voices NBC’s Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony tease

“Winter is Coming,” indeed. For tonight’s Sochi Winter Olympics opening ceremony coverage on NBC, the network has recruited Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage to narrate an opening tease just before coverage starts. NBC’s tease will air at 7:30pm ET on Feb. 7.

In the nearly seven-minute open (a short preview is below), Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister in the HBO hit Game of Thrones, welcomes audiences to Russia and the Winter Games. The opener showcases the history and culture of the country, as well as the athletes viewers will get to know over the 17 days of the Games. Their stories are highlighted just moments before they walk into Fisht Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony.

NBC says that Olympians featured in the opening tease include Shaun White, Gracie Gold, Shani Davis, J.R. Celski, Meryl Davis and Charlie White, Ashley Wagner, Julia Mancuso, Bode Miller, Tina Maze, Aksel Lund Svindal, Yuna Kim and Alex Ovechkin.

Interestingly, this is not the first Sochi Winter Olympics promo voiced by a Game of Thrones actor. Last month, a tease was created by the BBC for its coverage of the Games that featured a Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) voiceover. Dance’s take is considerably more ominous than Dinklage’s, focusing more on the potential power of wintry nature over man, versus athlete personalities. Still pretty cool:
