On Demand DVD New Releases For Feb. 3-9

If the weather has you stuck inside, why not check out one of these titles? Once again, we welcome Channel Guide movie critic Paul Hall, who offers some thoughts on a few of this week’s new releases.

A Case of You A young writer tries to impress a girl he meets online with an embellished profile, but he finds himself in a real mess when she falls for him and he has to keep up the act. Peter DinklageJustin Long, Evan Rachel Wood (R, 1:29) 2/3

About Time When he reaches age 21, Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) discovers he can travel in time and change events in his own life. When he decides to go back in time and arrange to get himself a girlfriend (Rachel McAdams), he finds unexpected complications. Paul says: “Director Richard Curtis surprised me with this tale of falling in love. Here, Tim (Gleeson) learns the men in his family have a gift: They can travel in time to alter their own life, and it is not always as easy as you might think. This romantic and charming — yet adult-themed — film recalls Curtis’ “Love Actually.” It’s a delightful and fun romp with likable characters. (Grade: B+)” Also stars Bill Nighy (R, 2:03) 2/4

Dallas Buyers Club Matthew McConaughey delivers one of his best performances in this fact-based drama about a hustler in 1985 Dallas who is diagnosed as HIV-positive, then works around the system to help other AIDS patients get the medication they need. Paul says: “In the emotionally charged story, Ron Woodroof (McConaughey) not only battles AIDS as a cowboy in the South, but also battles a system that seems to be working against his very survival. It’s rough and raw but full of heart and incredible performances.” Also stars Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto (R, 1:57) 2/4

Escape Plan Action-star legends Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger team up in this yarn about a security expert who must use his skills — and help from the inside — to escape the world’s most secret and secure prison. Also stars Jim Caviezel (R, 1:56) 2/4

Free Birds Two mismatched turkeys team up for an adventure that involves going back in time to try to keep turkey from becoming a staple of the holiday menu. Paul says: “The Thanksgiving turkey gets pardoned, heads back through time and tries to change the fate of all turkeys. And that’s just the backdrop for this holiday film. It’s fun and witty, but I’m not sure how it plays being released now — I’m surprised they didn’t save this for Thanksgiving 2014.” Featuring the voices of Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Amy Poehler (PG, 1:31) 2/4

Baggage Claim A flight attendant, who is determined to get engaged before her youngest sister’s wedding, uses her airline connections to conduct a 30-day search hunting down ex-boyfriends and searching for other potential suitors. Paula Patton, Derek Luke, Taye Diggs (PG-13, 1:36) 2/4

The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete This heartfelt drama tells the coming-of-age story of two inner-city boys who must fend for themselves all summer after their mothers are taken away by authorities. Skylan Brooks, Jordin Sparks, Ethan Dizon (R, 1:48) 2/4
