Critics Choice Awards 2014: Time, date, TV channel, preview and more

Another awards show, so soon after the Golden Globes? That’s the task that awaits the Critics Choice Awards 2014 — the 19th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards — which will be broadcast live tonight beginning at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. Depending on your local market, you can find pre-show coverage beginning as early as two hours before the ceremony.

Critics Choice Awards 2014 Aisha Tyler The CWAisha Tyler (Archer) will host the event, which has grown in stature over the years as a pretty good indicator of what we can expect from the Academy Awards. The biggest nomination-getters were 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle with 13 each, including Best Picture. Gravity scored 10 nominations, and The Wolf of Wall Street, Her, Captain Phillips and Nebraska all chimed in with six.

The Academy Awards nominations, which were announced this morning, stack up similarly with American Hustle and Gravity both notching 10 and 12 Years a Slave with nine. So, you know, when you see the stars walking the red carpet tonight it will be their first appearance as Oscar nominees. Nifty, right?

The awards are given out by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, which is, according to its website, the “largest film critics organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than 280 television, radio and online critics.” The ceremony will take place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.

Tyler promises to be a strong host, and her ties to The CW extend to her duties as host of the new version of the improv-comedy favorite Whose Line Is It Anyway?
