When is It’s a Wonderful Life on TV 2013?

You might recall the days of being able to watch It’s a Wonderful Life on TV a LOT. The 1946 Frank Capra classic was in the public domain at that time, about 20 or 30 years ago, and it seemed to air nearly nonstop in syndication between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

For the past several years, rights to It’s a Wonderful Life have belonged to NBC, so airings of the film have become more of a special viewing occasion, with the network usually airing it twice during the Christmas season. And they are doing so again in 2013:

Saturday, Dec. 14 Friday, Dec. 20 and Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013
NBC, 8pm ET/PT
IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE — (FROM NBC) NBC again presents this exclusive and special telecast of Frank Capra’s 1946 holiday classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” starring James Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore. The film follows the life of George Bailey (Stewart) from childhood to maturity in the town of Bedford Falls. On what might be his last Christmas Eve, a discouraged Bailey wants to throw his life away. Fortunately, Clarence (Henry Travers), a second-class angel, is sent to show him the value of life. After Clarence gives Bailey a view of Bedford Falls without him, Bailey realizes how precious his life is and gets a second chance. He comes to learn that Clarence was right when he said, “No man is a failure who has friends.” The film, which earned Oscar nominations for best picture, director, actor and film editing, was produced and directed by Capra.

UPDATE 12/11/13: NBC has moved its original first airing of It’s a Wonderful Life from Dec. 14 to Dec. 20. NBC is now re-airing The Sound of Music Live! Dec. 14 at 8pm.

  1. I’m aaaaalllllright, I’m aaaaalllllright, I have a DVD of the movie,
however NBC would have more friends if they broadcast more often.

  2. Seems every year lovers of this movie seem to get relegated to only having one and perhaps two chances to see it. NBC should be ashamed.

  3. What a joke…I planned my evening looking forward to watching Its a Wonderful Life…sooo disappointed :((
