BBC America Doctor Who 50th anniversary schedule

In the United States, the BBC America Doctor Who 50th anniversary celebration coverage leading up to the “Day of the Doctor” special began yesterday, continues today (Nov. 19) with a 10am-11pm ET marathon of The Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) episodes, and will continue tomorrow, Nov. 20, through the weekend of the airing of the 50th anniversary special worldwide on Nov. 23.

Doctor Who Explained – Nov. 22 at 8pm on BBC America. A new special featuring interviews with principal cast members from the show’s 50-year history.

An Adventure in Space and Time – Nov. 22 at 9pm on BBC America. David Bradley, Brian Cox, Jessica Raine and Sacha Dhawan star in this dramatic retelling of how the very first Doctor Who episode was created by the BBC in 1963, and how it went on to grow into a success.

BBC America Doctor Who 50th Live Pre-Show — Nov. 23 at 2:30pm ET on BBC America. BBC America has partnered with Nerdist Industries to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who with the first-ever live simulcast pre-show from the YouTube Space Los Angeles. Hosted by Veronica Belmont, this pre-show will be a celebration of 50 years of all things Doctor Who and its fans, and will also be streamed to global audiences on BBC America’s YouTube channel just prior to the “Day of the Doctor” special.

Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor – Nov. 23, global simulcast at 2:50pm ET (seen on BBC America in the U.S.); rebroadcast at 7pm ET on BBC America. The centerpiece of BBC America’s celebrations is the global simulcast of Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary special, Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor, written by Steven Moffat. The Doctors (Matt Smith and David Tennant) embark on their greatest adventure across space and time. In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him. Starring Matt Smith, David Tennant, Jenna Coleman, with Billie Piper and John Hurt. Last seen as the Doctor on January 1, 2010, this will be the first time David Tennant has reprised his role as the Tenth Doctor.


The Graham Norton Show — Nov. 23 at 10pm on BBC America. Doctor Who stars Matt Smith and David Tennant make their first appearance together on the show in this U.S. premiere.

Doctor Who – Matt Smith Countdown – Nov. 24 all day starting at 9am on BBC America. The network counts down the top 11 episodes from the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, as voted on by fans.

Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited — The Eleventh Doctor – Nov. 24 at 8pm on BBC America. This new special in the series celebrates Matt Smith, who first stepped into the TARDIS in 2010 and, after starring in the 50th anniversary special, will regenerate in the Christmas special. The special is followed by the Eleventh Doctor two-part story, “The Impossible Astronaut” and “Day of the Moon,” in which a strange summons reunites the Doctor, Amy (Karen Gillan), Rory (Arthur Darvill) and River (Alex Kingston) in the middle of the Utah desert and unveils a terrible secret the Doctor’s friends must never reveal to him. These were the first Doctor Who episodes to be filmed in the U.S.
