The Pretty Little Liars Halloween special did not disappoint.

The Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode on ABC Family did not disappoint, but does it ever? If you aren’t up to date on the PLL series it’s okay because it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out what’s going on, as the Pretty Little Liars episode, “Grave New World,” played a big part in introducing ABC Family’s spinoff show Ravenswood.
The Pretty Little Liars episode starts out with Caleb getting on a bus that he thinks is going back to Rosewood but in actuality is on its way to Ravenswood. Back in Ravenswood, Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Hanna (Ashley Benson), and Emily (Shay Mitchell) are continuing their search for their friend Alison (Sasha Pieterse) during the Ravenswood Founders Day Celebration. The girls have continuously been warned in this episode of PLL and in others by Mrs. Grunwald (Meg Foster) — a character that we will later recognize in the show Ravenswood—of the danger in Ravenswood. But as we all know it is against the nature of the girls to give up on a search so easily even if it’s a matter of life and death.
The girls are in the woods of Ravenswood when they spot Alison and run after her into an abandoned house. They run through the basement and get split up from each other. It’s important to note — especially with who the A in this episode is — that in the previous episode of Pretty Little Liars and at the beginning of the episode that we’ve been shown scenes of Ezra (Ian Harding) and his possible connections with the A team, a theory that has surely disappointed many fans of Ezra and Aria. But we only continue to doubt him during the scene on the patio of this Halloween special with Spencer and the person in the same clothes that Ezra was wearing at the beginning of the episode with a gas mask on. During the scene Spencer puts up a challenging fight to the attacker and even takes a big slash at their hand but eventually the attacker knocks her unconscious.
Meanwhile, back on the bus, Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) has met a girl named Miranda (Nicole Gale Anderson) — a new character to Pretty Little Liars but one that will play a leading role in the show Ravenswood — who is on her way to her uncle’s house. They both end up at Ravenswood together and part ways. At the abandoned house, Hanna is trapped inside a phone booth and terrorized from the outside when she sees Ali and the person in the mask. They disappear and seconds later Hanna happens to be discovered by Miranda. Miranda goes on to reunite Caleb and Hanna towards the end of the episode and while they are all together outside the graveyard Miranda discovers a headstone with her name on it, Miranda Collins, and a picture of a girl that looks exactly like her — a foreshadow to the premise of the show Ravenswood.
We find out in this Pretty Little Liars Halloween special that the girls have been right all along, Alison has been here the entire time but she disappears again when Ezra shows up with Aria’s cell phone acting very suspicious with the way he hides his — possibly bleeding — hand in the pocket of his jacket.
At the end of the episode of PLL, Caleb has decided to stay in Ravenswood with Miranda to help her with her uncle. He has even more reason to stay there when he finds a similar headstone to Miranda’s with his name on it, and a picture of a person that looks identical to him. Now, we have Ravenswood from ABC Family. It’s a show surrounding a group of kids who are, “Bound by a curse to dig up from the past or be buried by their fate. A curse that has haunted the town for generations and Caleb is the center of it,” from the exclusive look at Ravenswood.
