MTV debuts Miley Cyrus documentary “Miley: The Movement”

In the wake of her headline-grabbing, tongue-wagging, twerking performance at the 2013 VMAs at the end of August, Miley Cyrus has been on fire, including nabbing her first-ever No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the song “Wrecking Ball.” MTV is calling Miley’s recent run a “movement,” and will be chronicling it in a one-hour documentary called Miley: The Movement, premiering Oct. 2 at 10pm ET/PT.

MTV says that over the last four months it has had unique access to Miley Cyrus, and has been able to document her journey from tween TV star to the latest pop music sensation. Miley: The Movement follows the singer as she gears up for the release of her debut album, Bangerz, on Oct. 8. The special will chronicle her ups and downs at home, in the studio and on the road, as well as the planning, rehearsals, performance and media frenzy surround her VMAs medley with Robin Thicke.

According to MTV, Miley: The Movement will also air internationally on MTV channels around the world in October 2013.

Ahead of Miley: The Movement in the U.S., on the morning of Oct. 2, MTV will dedicate its entire AMTV morning music block to Miley Cyrus. Additionally, MTV Hits — MTV’s 24-hour  music channel — will launch a special Miley: The Movement Countdown for a full 24 hours prior to the documentary’s premiere, including music videos, live performance clips, interviews with MTV News and teasers.

Miley: The Movement premieres Oct. 2 at 10pm ET/PT on MTV.

UPDATE 10/3/13: MTV says that a 90-minute deluxe edition of Miley: The Movement will air Oct. 6 at 8pm ET/PT, featuring never-before-seen footage and extended scenes. During this deluxe edition airing, the network will also show the trailer for Girl Code Season 2, which premieres Oct. 29.
