Gretchen Carlson joins FOX News Channel daytime lineup

Following her departure from the FOX & Friends morning show on FOX News Channel (FNC), with Elisabeth Hasselbeck taking over her spot on that show a few weeks back, Gretchen Carlson will debut her new one-hour daytime show on FNC starting Sept. 30. Called The Real Story With Gretchen Carlson, the program will air weekdays at 2pm ET.

According to an FNC release, The Real Story With Gretchen Carlson will “focus on all current events from general news to crime to politics and investigative reports.” In her new role, Carlson will interview newsmakers and lead panel debates. FNC says the show will also use social media to explore trending news stories and enlist viewer feedback.

In a release announcing her new daytime show, FNC’s executive vice president of news, Michael Clemente, said, “Throughout her career, Gretchen has showcased her talents as a strong interviewer and skilled moderator, both of which will serve her well as she offers viewers a fresh take on the news.”

Also in that release, Carlson commented on her new daytime role (and quipped about her former morning role), “I am thrilled that Roger Ailes has given me the opportunity to host a signature show for Fox that will focus on the real stories of the day. … Plus, now I get to have breakfast with my kids and maybe even drive them to school! How great is that?”

Preceding The Real Story With Gretchen Carlson, at 1pm ET, will be a one-hour weekday presentation of America’s News HQ, co-anchored by Bill Hemmer and Alisyn Camerota.

Carlson enters FOX News Channel’s daytime lineup as one of its popular former daytime personalities, Megyn Kelly, moves to primetime in the network’s new evening lineup that starts the following week, Oct. 7.

The Real Story With Gretchen Carlson airs weekdays at 2pm ET on FOX News Channel beginning Sept. 30.
