TLC picks up British Oscar Pistorius documentary

Interest in the shocking circumstances surrounding the case of Oscar Pistorius — the once-celebrated Paralympic and Olympic athlete now on trial in South Africa for the Valentine’s Day murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot to death by Oscar Pistorius in his home — continues. This was evidenced last month by the quick turnaround in the production of a couple of specials about the Oscar Pistorius case here in the United States, and also in the rapid production of the documentary Oscar Pistorius: What Really Happened? that aired on BBC3 in the United Kingdom on March 11.

That documentary smashed ratings for the network, and is now making its way around the world, including to TLC in the U.S., where it will premiere under the title Blade Runner: The Untold Story March 27 at 10pm ET. A release from the film’s distributor, Passion Distribution, says that this will be a “unique version” of the documentary.

Blade Runner: The Untold Story looks at the events around and leading up to Reeva Steenkamp’s death, and features never-before-seen interviews from the forensic pathologist, an ex-boyfriend of Reeva Steenkamp’s and friends of the couple who give insights into what may have led to Steenkamp’s death.

Oscar Pistorius is currently on bail, and has pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder, claiming he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder, and that the shooting was a tragic accident. The case is still under investigation.

The one-hour special Blade Runner: The Untold Story premieres March 27 at 10pm ET on TLC.
