Season 2 Moonshiners Secret Summit recap

Here’s your Moonshiners Secret Summit Part 2 recap, well, maybe more like a rundown of some of the more interesting things Discovery’s popular moonshiners shared during their round-table discussion with the show’s executive producer Matthew Ostrom.  In Moonshiners Secret Summit Part 2, Tim Smith, Pickle, Jeff, Josh, Mark and Bill talk about why they don’t share their recipes, how to avoid a hangover, the biggest myths on moonshining and more. Jim Thom was a no show for the summit, but that wasn’t  a real surprise, considering he floated in and out throughout the season – mostly getting on the nerves of Jeff. Here are a few things we learned from the summit.

Moonshiners Secret Summit recap, Tickle, Tim SmithThere will be a Season 3 of Moonshiners …
Ostrom ended the special thanking the guys and saying they’ll all be back for Season 3.

Tickle is officially the series’ heartthrob …
His Valentine Day special on Feb. 14 helped support that too, but he receives the most fan mail. Tickle shared that one of his female fans created a facebook page and acted like they were married, which he didn’t appreciate. After Tickle, Josh gets the most fan mail.

Good moonshine has got to have some burn …
Mark says: “It’s got to burn. If it doesn’t burn, something’s wrong with it.” Although he explains that the burn doesn’t leave you “regretting you took a sip out of it.”

A good moonshiner needs to be afraid to get caught …
Tickle: “If you’re not afraid of getting caught, you’re going to get caught.”
Josh: “Not afraid of getting caught it’s probably not fun anymore.”

Tim and Tickle and Jeff and Mark each think they have the best moonshine, but Bill and Josh think otherwise as the freshman of moonshining …
“You can taste our inexperience in our jars,” Bill admitted. “Putting it next to these men’s liquor there is no comparison.”

There is a code between moonshiners …
There’s a code between moonshiners and that’s that they don’t talk, period.

There are ways to tell the proof of moonshine …
The guys say, the faster the bubbles go away the lower the proof, and the bigger the bubbles the higher the proof.

Bill and Josh are still good friends and partners …
Josh said pretty much the whole time he wanted to quit. Although there were times when they wanted to kill each other, at the end of the day they would slap each other on their back and continue to solve their problems, and make their moonshine a reality.

There’s a reason Tickle samples so much …
Tickle: “Quality control is an important part of the job. Hate to send anything out there that is substandard.”

Tim and Tickle want you to know what a hoe cake is …
It’s a big piece of bread. Heavy bread. “When you eat it it sticks to your ribs,” Tim says. The website Hillbilly Housewife lists the recipe here.

Don’t drink and shine …
Tim: “You got to decide what you want to do – you going to make it or you going to drink it?”

Some of the biggest myths about moonshine …[according to the guys]
People think that it will make you go blind.
That moonshine is an inferior product to what you buy in the store.
That the guys do this because they don’t want to work

You can avoid a hangover …
If you use natural yeast – you don’t get a hangover. Yeast is what gives you a hangover, Jeff shares.

Jim Tom didn’t come to the Moonshiner Secret Summit for a number or reasons…
“I’m more like a hermit,” Jim Tom tells Ostrom. “I don’t go many places.” The duo walk through the woods chatting about his younger days, his hidden recipe and meeting the Suttons.

Prior to moonshining Jim Tom was a chauffeur …
Hard to imagine but Jim Thom has 22 DUIs, including one day when the cops caught him twice, but before he was moonshining we was a chauffeur for a missionary.
