Grammys 2013 ratings: Awards telecast draws second-largest audience since 1993

In their reporting of the fast nationals from its coverage of last night’s Grammys 2013 ceremony (using Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings), CBS says that the 55th Annual Grammy Awards scored 28.37 million viewers — the second-largest audience for the awards broadcast since 1993. It was also the second-best delivery in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 since 2004 (all behind the 2012 broadcast, which had the extraordinary circumstance of taking place a day following Whitney Houston’s passing).

During its live airing from 8-11:30pm ET, the Grammys posted a 15.9/25 with 28.37 million viewers, 11.2 in adults 25-54, 10.1 in adults 18-49 and 9.3 in adults 18-34.

Compared to the 2011 Grammys ceremony, CBS was up +7% in households, +4% in adults 25-54, +1% in adults 18-49 and added +1.70 million viewers with last night’s Grammys telecast.

CBS also reports that last night’s Grammys set a new social TV record for an awards show with more than 18.7 million social media comments, second only to this year’s Super Bowl, and topping even last year’s Grammys by +44%.
