Leon vs Cruz Azul, Chivas vs San Luis highlight Liga MX soccer weekend on Telemundo

This weekend, Feb. 2-3, Telemundo will air two matches of Week 5 of the Clausura tournament of Liga MX. Both matches will be called by Andrés Cantor alongside Sammy Sadovnik, who will provide commentary and analysis from the booth. The matches will also be live-streamed on deportestelemundo.com.

The first match features Leon vs Cruz Azul on Saturday, Feb. 2, live at 9pm ET. Cruz Azul is unbeaten so far, so it won’t be an easy task for Leon to get back to where they were in 2012, when they became one of the surprise teams. Leon is hoping that the fact that they have history on their side may help — Leon has not been defeated at the Nou Camp by Cruz Azul since May 1991, when Cruz Azul edged out Leon 1-0 on a goal by Pedro Duana. Recent history also favors Leon, as the squad still relishes last year’s 3-0 win at home in the second leg of the quarterfinals of the 2012 Apertura playoffs that put them in the playoffs. The overall score in that series was 4-2 in favor of Leon. The standout player of that match was forward Matías Britos (pictured), who scored two of Leon’s three goals and will play in the match this Saturday night.

The match on Sunday, Feb. 3, at 1pm ET is at Omnilife Stadium and pits Chivas vs San Luis. San Luis has no wins, one tie and three losses in its first four matches and will see their coach, Eduardo Fentanes, face his former team for the first time as a coach. Chivas currently is the lowest-scoring team in the tournament, with three goals scored in four matches, but they hope offensive midfielder Marco Fabián can help them to victory this Sunday. History also favors Chivas, as they have won nine of the 21 times the two teams have faced each other, with eight ties and just four losses against San Luis.

Leon vs Cruz Azul airs Feb. 2 live at 9pm ET on Telemundo. Chivas vs San Luis airs Feb. 3 live at 1pm ET on Telemundo.
