7 Questions With …. Manila Luzon of RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race

Manila Luzon was runner-up to Season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race to ultimate winner Raja. She may have been a Heather in that season, but she was never really all that mean. In the All Stars competition, she chose to be paired with one of the sweetest Drag Race contestants, Latrice Royale. Unfortunately the pairing didn’t bring either of them the ultimate prize. Manila was kind enough to respond to our email questions shortly after episode 3 aired.

Channel Guide Magazine: Do you think you could’ve done anything differently to stay in the competition?

Manila Luzon: Possibly, but I chose to compete the way I wanted to. And I’m happy with my performance on the show. The coins would have been nice, though!

CGM Were you happy with your team? You seemed to really connect with Latrice and even defend her at times.

ML: I am really happy with having to compete the whole season with Latrice! She’s an amazing person and we really got to nurture a close friendship while filming the show that wouldn’t have happened if we were allowed to compete by ourselves!

CGM What are you doing next? Where can people see you? Any more music videos coming out soon?

ML: Latrice Royale and I just released the first ever original duet from any Drag Race girls “The Chop”. So check out the video on YouTube, kids! And find out where I’ll be touring around the world on my website! MUAH

You’re at a magazine rack and can pick three titles, which ones do you choose?

I’d pick up a W, a Vogue and one of those Black Girl Hair Magazines… they have the best ideas for hair!

Your DVR can only carry 3 shows, which ones would you want?

RuPaul’s Drag Race, duh…. The Big Bang Theory cuz I’m a geek. And Spongebob!!! Love Spongebob!

What’s been your strangest fan encounter?

I’ve had several strange fan encounters, but my favorite ones are when I meet a fan dressed as me! My Fanilas are so creative especially when they recreate one of my dresses I wore on the show, like Big Bird or the Pineapple!

Tell me about a time when you were starstruck.

I still get starstruck around RuPaul. Always! Maybe Ru is the only one I’ve ever been starstruck around…and I haven’t met Barbra or Madonna yet.

What are three things you must have in your fridge or pantry?

Water in the fridge…that’s all that’s in my fridge… the other stuff is my roommates. I mean sometimes I’ll have left over pizza…Wait, that reminds me I have some pizza in the fridge now! Lunch! SCORE!

What are your three favorite movies?

Little Shop of Horrors, The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Funny Girl. Did I mention I’m totally gay?

You’ve had some awesome hats out of unusual items – shoes, hands with cigarettes – what do you want to make into a hat that you haven’t yet?

I’ll make anything into a hat or a hair accessory. I’ve worn toy cars, Chinese take out containers, chandeliers… If it’s light enough to pin to a wig, I’ll make it into a hat, trust!
