nuvoTV’s “Curvy Girls” explores challenges of plus-size modeling

The new series Curvy Girls, premiering tonight on nuvoTV, is about models, but unlike so many of the other reality shows that focus on that profession, it features no eliminations, and no challenges. Instead, it professes to be a raw look at the real-life challenges of being a plus-size woman in a skinny-girl world.

Curvy Girls follows four Latinas — LornaLitz, Denise, Rosie and Ivory — through their experiences in the competitive industry of modeling, while also diving into their personal struggles with body image, eating disorders and emotional difficulties. Each week, the women lay it all on the table for viewers, from failed auditions to failed loves.

LornaLitz (an alumna of the nuvoTV series Model Latina) is a newbie to the plus-size scene who will do anything to achieve the same accomplishments as her friends. Denise is an ambitious single mom looking to create a better future for her daughter. Rosie is a voluptuous beauty fighting to reshape questionable casting practices in the modeling industry. And Ivory is a stunner who earns up to $15,000 a gig, and she strives to help her friends reach her level of success.

In the hourlong episode 1, “Curvy Girls,” airing tonight at 9pm, we are introduced to the ladies and their personalities and dreams. Episode 2, “Flaunt It,” airing tonight at 10pm, finds the women facing challenges that will make or break their careers. Premiere night concludes with episode 3, “Too Much Sugar,” at 10:30pm this evening, in which LornaLitz tries to save her rep while reaping the rewards of a sugar daddy while Denise tries video-hosting — and drama explodes at Ivory’s birthday bash.

Curvy Girls premieres with three episodes tonight, Sept. 18, at 9pm, 10pm and 10:30pm ET/PT on nuvoTV.
