“E:60” NFL Draft Special on ESPN

ESPN’s sports newsmagazine series E:60 returns for a four-episode run this spring beginning with an NFL Draft Special on Tuesday, April 24, at 7pm ET. The three following episodes of E:60 will air Tuesdays through May 15.

From ESPN’s press release:

E:60’s NFL Draft Special on April 24 at 7 p.m. will feature the following original and previously aired pieces:

Waiting on Roger Goodell
More than any other event in sports, the NFL Draft is a celebration of idleness. For the nation’s top college football players, the Draft marks the most important night in their football lives. But when the reality of being selected actually arrives, the future draftees face a new challenge—they must sit and wait. E:60’s Jeremy Schaap examines what it’s like for a player to wait helplessly on draft day, knowing that he has no control over the process that will assign him a new home, a first job and the size of his first paycheck. Among the players sharing their experiences are Matthew Stafford, Vernon Davis, Maurice Jones-Drew, Ray Rice and Aaron Rodgers.

G.J. Kinne: Shot of Reality
Former Tulsa QB G.J. Kinne, the 2010 Conference USA offensive player of the year, is projected to be a late round draft pick. He was once a star high school quarterback playing for his father in suburban Dallas, Texas. His future appeared bright, full of possibility until a gunshot changed everything. What happened? E:60’s Lisa Salters tells the story of the worst hour of G.J. Kinne’s life.

Chris Johnson/Kenny Turner: Lettermen
A promise Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson and Kenny Turner made as childhood friends may finally be fulfilled. Johnson will be entering his fifth season in the NFL and is one of only six players to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season. Turner, now 26, is eligible for this year’s NFL Draft. In 2002, Turner was sentenced to five years in prison following a shooting at an Orlando, Fla. gas station. Despite taking different paths, Johnson and Turner remained close through letters, devoted to their childhood football dream. Turner was released from prison in 2007 and resumed his football career at New Mexico State. He is poised for the NFL Draft. E:60’s Michael Smith reports.

Upcoming E:60 Shows
E:60’s May 1 program will focus on Major League Baseball with profiles on the Mets’ knuckleball pitcher R.A. Dickey, former Red Sox pitcher Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd, and Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran. The May 8 and 15 shows will be half-hour profile episodes of NFL stars Aaron Rodgers of the Packers and Patrick Willis of the 49ers.
