7 Questions With … “The Walking Dead’s” IronE Singleton

IronE Singleton in "The Walking Dead"Atlanta native IronE Singleton, who plays T-Dog on AMC’s The Walking Dead, took time to talk to us — on his birthday, of all days! Although he was extremely tight-lipped on upcoming storylines for The Walking Dead — well, besides saying “things are going to get even crazier” — he was able to share a little bit more about himself.

1. You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose?

Entertainment Weekly, People and Essence.

2. If your TV only carried three networks, which three would you have to have?

AMC, of course. Then I would have to go with two major networks. It would either be ABC because they play a lot of sports and probably NBC.

3. What’s been your strangest fan encounter to date?

I was at Walmart and a guy came up to me and said, “Aren’t you the guy from The Blind Side?” And I was like, “Yeah, I was in The Blind Side.” And he said, “Oh man, you were awesome in that.” And then I think it came up that I was in The Walking Dead also, and he was like, “I live here, too. Where do you live?” And I’m like, “I live by the high school.” And he’s like [more aggressively], “No, exactly where do you live? Where’s your house?” And in my head I’m like, “What???” I thought that was the strangest thing. I said, “I’m nearby, so maybe I’ll see you around.”

4. When’s the last time you were starstruck?

That’s a hard one. I’d have to really think about that one. I’d probably have to go back to maybe when I was a kid. I really don’t know. … I’d probably say when I was 10 or 11 years old and I went to the Dream Jamboree and I met Mayor Andrew Young — that was my first time meeting anyone of influence, I think. I ended up in the newspaper because they took a picture of me standing beside him.

5. What’s your favorite condiment?

It depends on what I’m eating. French fries — ketchup. Sandwich — mayo.

6. What bores you?

Wow — you’re really getting me. What maybe bothers me or disturbs me is that people don’t pursue their dreams or goals. They expect those things to just happen without putting forth an effort. Contentment or lethargy — not really pursuing your passion. If I’m not working on things, I get bored and irritated.

7. What movie can you watch again and again and never get tired of?

Rocky. Rocky. Mostly sports movies but Rocky is my favorite movie. The Blind Side is in my top three because I can relate to it so much, and Friday Night Lights.

You can watch IronE Singleton in The Walking Dead on AMC Sundays.
