HBO airs documentary on DADT as controversial law is repealed

Tonight at midnight ET/PT (early morning of Tuesday, Sept. 20) — at the exact moment that the repeal of the controversial “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law takes effect — HBO will be offering a sneak preview of its new documentary The Strange History of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. It’s the strange-but-true story of the U.S. military’s ban on gays and lesbians, from its implementation, through passionate protests and debates, and finally to its 2011 repeal as of tomorrow — after 17 years, three presidencies and the discharge of 13,368 active service members under the law. After this preview, the 90-minute documentary — filmed during the final 15 months of the law by Emmy winners Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato — will make its first primetime airing Sept. 20 at 8pm ET/PT on HBO.
