ABC’s “Pan Am” flight experience takes off at select malls

By Jeff Pfeiffer

Ready to go back to those thrilling days of yesteryear when air travel was actually romantic, glamorous and fun — not a colossal pain in the ass? ABC’s new fall series Pan Am certainly conveys the look and feel of such a time (star Christina Ricci is pictured), and in anticipation of the show’s premiere Sept. 25, the network is bringing a similarly themed “flight experience” to malls across the country, culminating in a daylong event in New York’s Times Square.

The special booth at these stops, which premiered at San Diego’s Comic Con in July, is a re-creation of a first-class cabin from a 1960s Pan Am plane. Visitors to the booth will be given a flight time and a boarding pass. Once they check in, they’ll watch a preview of Pan Am and receive Pan Am bags. A few “passengers” at each stop will also be given Pan Am Explorer bags. To complete the retro, Jet Age experience, brand ambassadors dressed in Pan Am stewardess uniforms will be assisting with each “flight.”

Here’s a list of stops at which the Pan Am flight experience will be laying over:

Los Angeles, The Grove — Aug. 26, 11am-8pm; Aug. 27-28, 11am-5pm

Chicago, Woodfield Mall — Sept. 2, 11am-8pm; Sept. 3-4, 11am-5pm

Boston, Burlington Mall — Sept. 9, 11am-8pm; Sept. 10, 11am-5pm

Philadelphia, King of Prussia Mall — Sept. 16, 11am-8pm; Sept. 17-18, 11am-5pm

New York Times Square Event — Sept. 23, 6am-6pm
