The US women now face France in the first semifinal of the 2011 World Cup, on Wednesday, July 13 at 11:30 a.m. ET (ESPN). The surprising French side, with their very attractive uniforms, knocked out England on Saturday. It is the first appearance for 7th-ranked Les Bleues in a World Cup semifinal.
Japan also reaches the semis for the first time, after they toppled two-time defending champions Germany in extra time. Japan takes on Sweden in the second semifinal match, on Wednesday, July 13 at 2:15 p.m. ET (ESPN).
The winners of Wednesday’s matches will play in the Women’s World Cup Finals on Sunday, July 17, at 2 p.m. on ESPN. The Third Place match will be played on Saturday, July 16, at 11 a.m. on ESPN2.
