Rare Interview with Legendary Golfer Lee Trevino Highlights Monday 10 p.m. ET Premiere of Feherty on Golf Channel

Funnyman David Feherty Begins 12-Episode Series of ‘Unfiltered’ Interviews and Hilarious Situations

Charles Barkley, Don Cheadle and Tom Watson Featured in Future Episodes

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 17, 2011) – On Monday’s 10 p.m. ET debut of his much-anticipated Golf Channel series, David Feherty will be granted rare access to the normally private, but ever-entertaining Lee Trevino for an extended conversation about the self-made golfer and hall-of-famer’s life and career.

On the heels of this week’s playing of the U.S. Open and 40 years after his memorable 18-hole playoff victory over Jack Nicklaus in the 1971 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club, Trevino not only will remember his greatest wins and funniest stories, but also will reveal how a poor boy of Mexican ancestry from Dallas, Texas, overcame the odds to become arguably the greatest shotmaker and one of the most-loved personalities in the history of golf.  The interview also will reveal Trevino’s personal thoughts on Jack Nicklaus – the man – and Tiger Woods – the golfer.

Feherty has been an admirer of Trevino since childhood – often pretending to be the great golfer during practice sessions.  But even when both were playing professionally, Feherty says he never got close enough to really know Trevino.  “I’d heard some of the stories before, but never in context and never from the man, himself,” he said.

A self-admitted alcoholic who suffers from mental illness, Feherty also will share a personal story of his own addictions in the first episode and how he continues to fight his demons every day.

The series’ premiere episode of Feherty will be presented as a special hour-long version.  The show also will encore on Tuesday night when the 12-episode series settles into its regular Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET timeslot.

Feherty has been called “one of the funniest men in the game” by Yahoo! Sports, “funny, irreverent and positively brilliant” by PGATOUR.com and a personality known for his “sharp wit and blunt humor” by the Dallas Morning News.  The Feherty series will feature what the Northern Irishman-turned-American citizen calls “unfiltered” interviews.

In future episodes, Feherty will visit a suburban Los Angeles art center to do some play-acting with Academy Award-nominated actor Don Cheadle (June 28).  He’ll travel to Stillwell, Kan., to visit with legendary golfer Tom Watson at his picturesque and spacious family ranch (July 5). And basketball hall-of-famer and candid commentator Charles Barkley will bring his own brand of candor to the show in the series’ fourth week (July 12).

Surrounding the interviews in the 30-minute episodes, Feherty will demonstrate why he’s called golf’s funnyman through a variety of video shorts, storytelling and character play, as well as poignant and humorous observations on the peculiarities of life.

Barkley, Cheadle, Trevino and Watson Headline Early-Season Guest List on Feherty, New Prime-Time Series on Golf Channel

12-Episode Series to Reveal Personal Stories, Captivating Interviews And More Feherty Fun

Feherty Premieres With Special, One-Hour Episode, June 20, 10 p.m. ET.
Weekly Episodes Air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET

ORLANDO, Fla., (June 13, 2011) – Basketball hall-of-famer and candid commentator Charles Barkley, Academy Award-nominated actor Don Cheadle, and golf hall-of-famers Tom Watson and Lee Trevino will headline the list of intriguing personalities slated for early guest appearances on the new Golf Channel original series, Feherty.  Airing regularly Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET, Feherty will premiere on Monday, June 20, with a special, one-hour engagement at 10 p.m. ET (the premiere episode also will air Tuesday, June 21 at 9 p.m. ET).

For the first time, fans of popular golf commentator David Feherty can enjoy his unmistakable wit and irrepressible personality on weekly television.  Critically acclaimed, he has been called “one of the funniest men in the game” by Yahoo! Sports, “funny, irreverent and positively brilliant” by PGATOUR.com and a personality known for his “sharp wit and blunt humor” by the Dallas Morning News.  The Feherty series will feature what the Northern Irishman-turned-American citizen calls “unfiltered” interviews with well-known and outspoken people from the world of sports, entertainment and golf, along with unique stories and anecdotes from his brilliant, yet zany mind.

“Some of the guests have big mouths but even bigger hearts,” said Feherty.  “We have some great conversations, but I’m not sure, at times, if they are saving my life or trying to kill me.  I’ll let the viewers do the math to figure that one out.  Or better still, just watch.”

Shot in settings both intimate and personal to the guests, Feherty will display an uncanny interview style that engages his subjects and brings out answers both honest and revealing. Interview locations will span the country for the 12-episode series and will take place on and off the golf course.

Trevino, traditionally a private person who rarely does interviews, will sit down with Feherty for a lengthy conversation in the hour-long premiere.  The two will discuss Trevino’s rocky path to success, his reflections on the 30th anniversary of his U.S. Open victory and the current state of the game.

In future episodes, Feherty will travel to a suburban Los Angeles art center to do some play-acting with Cheadle (June 28).  He’ll travel to Stillwell, Kan., to visit with Tom Watson at his picturesque and spacious family ranch (July 5).  And Barkley will bring his own brand of candor to the show in the series’ fourth week (July 12).

Surrounding the interviews in the 30-minute episodes, Feherty will demonstrate why he’s called golf’s funnyman through a variety of video shorts, storytelling and character play, as well as poignant and humorous observations on the peculiarities of life.

To promote the series, Golf Channel will host an exclusive, invitation-only stage performance with Feherty in Washington, D.C., on June 14.  In recognition of the U.S. Open Championship being contested in nearby Bethesda, Md., that week, “Feherty Live” will showcase Feherty’s improvisational talents and feature PGA TOUR players and a special salute to the U.S. Armed Forces.

Feherty is the most recent addition to a Golf Channel prime-time lineup that contributed to the network’s most-watched first quarter ever.  The Haney Project, featuring Rush Limbaugh, was the most successful launch of an original series in two years and Pipe Dream, which chronicled the life of homeless golfer Mark Burk, lifted ratings by 50 percent for its time slot.
