Razzie Awards to be held tomorrow

You won’t seem them on TV (even though they seem to be ready-made to be presented as an hourlong special for Comedy Central, Spike or IFC; and they do have a YouTube channel), the Golden Raspberry Awards (aka “Razzies”) will be having their 31st installment tomorrow at a ceremony in Hollywood. These hilarious awards — which celebrate the worst in film from the past year — are traditionally held the night before the Oscar ceremony, and are sort of the anti-Academy Awards.

Each of this year’s 10 categories has five nominees (it could be argued that the Razzies should expand their nominees list in certain categories, as the Oscars have done, since there are likely far more awful movies than good from which to choose each year), and include several from the mega-hit Twilight Saga: Eclipse, as well as that film’s parody that supposedly showed how bad it was but ended up being bad itself, Vampires Suck. There are also several nods to Sex & the City 2, and a whole category slamming the obnoxious trend in 3-D that really exploded in the past year.

And what is a Razzie ceremony without an appearance by Sylvester Stallone on the list of nominees? Stallone, with 30 Razzie nominations and 10 “wins” over his career, has been “honored” the most by this awards ceremony. Among the wins, he has been named Worst Actor of the Decade for the 1980s, and has also received an award for Worst Actor of the Century for 95% of Everything He’s Ever Done. But he is actually nominated for his directing this year!
