TBS presents week of Steinbrenner “Seinfeld” episodes

To celebrate the life of late New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, who passed away last week at the age of 80, TBS will feature 10 episodes of Seinfeld this week that feature the memorable, fictionalized character of Steinbrenner (as voiced by series co-creator Larry David, with actor Lee Bear standing in as Steinbrenner, usually seen only from the back).

“Who else could be a memorable character on a television show without actually appearing on the show?” Jerry Seinfeld said after Steinbrenner’s passing. “You felt George even though he wasn’t there. That’s how huge a force of personality he was.”

The classic Steinbrenner episodes airing this week on TBS at 7pm and 7:30pm ET include:

JULY 19
7pm: “The Opposite” — In the fifth season finale, George (Jason Alexander) convinces Steinbrenner to give him a job with the Yankees.
7:30pm: “The Secretary” — George gets a secretary, but she ends up making more than he does after Steinbrenner gives her a $25,000 raise.

JULY 20
7pm: “The Race” — George heads to Cuba to recruit baseball players for Steinbrenner.
7:30pm: “The Wink” — Steinbrenner lists all the people he’s fired over the years.

JULY 21
7pm: “The Hot Tub” — Steinbrenner tries to convince George that a hot tub is the perfect way to relieve stress.
7:30pm: “The Caddy” — George’s father (Jerry Stiller) confronts Steinbrenner about a traded player.

JULY 22
7pm: “The Calzone” — Steinbrenner gets the idea to put Yankees clothes in a pizza oven.
7:30pm: “The Nap” — George’s napping habits at work lead Steinbrenner to think he has ESP.

JULY 23
7pm: “The Millennium” — George does everything he can to get fired, but Steinbrenner loves what he does.
7:30pm: “The Muffin Tops” — George loses his job when Steinbrenner trades him for new chicken concessions at Yankee Stadium.
