GOLF CHANNEL CHRONICLES GOLFER JOHN DALY’S ROAD TO REDEMPTION IN NEW ORIGINAL SERIES BEING JOHN DALY

Eight-Part Docu-reality Series Premieres March 2 at 9 p.m. ET

ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2010) – Similar to Mickey Rourke’s character in the critically acclaimed film The Wrestler, professional golfer John Daly had reached the pinnacle of success in his career only to end up losing everything to professional challenges and personal demons.  After hitting rock bottom, Daly is now focused on picking up the pieces of his life, which has been plagued by years of drinking, gambling and marriage problems, and returning to the PGA TOUR in an attempt at a major comeback. Daly’s incredible year-long journey is being documented by Golf Channel for a new eight-part reality series, Being John Daly, premiering Tuesday, March 2 at 9 p.m. ET.

Being John Daly provides viewers with a riveting behind-the-scenes look at Daly’s roller coaster of a life, from everyday struggles to emotional highs – with some laughs in between – and celebrity cameos sprinkled throughout.  A fan favorite, Daly has five PGA TOUR victories under his belt, including two major championships, but for years his career has been in steep decline. He’s playing promotional tournaments to make ends meet and pay back his debt.  He still suffers the effects of broken relationships and has struggled with weight gain and alcoholism.  Nevertheless, he’s worked to transform the dark moments that have haunted him into bright spots.  Daly’s personal struggles have even inspired him to create a country music album.

“We’ve been with Daly day-in and day-out for nearly a year following his attempts to rebuild his personal and professional life,” said Tom Stathakes, Golf Channel senior vice president of programming, production and operations. “Being John Daly will be a raw, unprecedented look behind the scenes, and we know viewers will be fascinated as we bring them along for the ride.”

Being John Daly is part of Golf Channel’s new slate of original programming featuring A-list Hollywood talent and fascinating sports personalities.  In addition to Daly’s show, the second season of The Haney Project, featuring Ray Romano, premieres March 1 and Donald J. Trump’s Fabulous World of Golf, will debut on the network April 26.  Golf in America, hosted by film and television actor Anthony Anderson (Law & Order, Transformers), will return for a second season this summer.
