Disney Channel has announced that it will start production later this summer on a sequel to its hit original movie Camp Rock. The first film, which debuted last summer, was cable TV’s No. 1 entertainment telecast of the year in Total Viewers (10.1 million) and TV’s No. 1 entertainment telecast in Tweens 9-14. The soundtrack to the film debuted at No. 3 and spent 10 weeks in the Top 10 and on Billboard’s 200 Album chart.

Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam will feature returning stars Demi Lovato, Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, Meaghan Martin, Alyson Stoner, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Roshon Fegan, Daniel Fathers and Maria Canals-Barrera. New to the cast are Matthew “Mdolt” Finley and Chloe Bridges.

In the sequel, Mitchie (Lovato), Shane (Joe Jonas), Jason (Kevin Jonas), Nate (Nick Jonas) and their friends return to Camp Rock for another summer of music and fun. But they soon learn that a new state-of-the-art music/performance camp, Camp Star, has opened across the lake and has lured away many of Camp Rock’s instructors and campers. When Camp Star’s hotshot performer, Luke Williams (Finley) challenges Camp Rock to a musical showdown, everyone prepares for an ultimate battle of the bands. In a little Romeo and Juliet-type side story, Nate falls for Dana Turner (Bridges), the daughter of the rival camp’s owner.

Directed by Paul Hoen (The Cheetah Girls One World) and choreographed by Rosero McCoy (Step Up), Camp Rock 2 will premiere in 2010.
