“One Tree Hill”: The Slippery Slope NEVER ENDS 6

Last night’s OTH wasn’t the most explosively hilarious, but at least some stuff happened.

We found out that Peyton’s dad is indeed the not-so-sober Mick (John Doe — still can’t believe he’s on that show). She’s not exactly as thrilled as she might have been, but she always has such dramatic expectations anyway, doesn’t she? In the end, they parted mutually agreeably at the paths their lives had taken. Mick was proud of his daughter, and she ultimately was appreciative for his having allowed her to have a different life than the one he would have given her as a punk rock, drunk rock dad.

In other news, Lucas is off on his book tour — but finds that Lindsey is not accompanying him. Instead, a really less-than-helpful guy who hasn’t even read Lucas’ book and thought it was a sci-fi title is promoting and managing the tour. At the first stop in Omaha, where Mouth is the only one to show up (other than the little girl who wanted Lucas to sign a Gossip Girl book — still more OTH cross-promotion!), the remainder of the tour is canceled. (Which, for you aspiring authors, would almost never happen. More than likely, you’d simply have no one show up at ALL of your dates.)

Dan Scott is back on his feet after the Crazy Nanny Carrie adventure, and he’s spending time with Jamie, with Nathan and Haley’s permission. Of course, he happens to stumble on Deb and Skills, who continue to creep out nearly everyone in their proximity. After thanking Deb for following up on her suspicions of Crazy Nanny Carrie, he sends her flowers — which she promptly chucks in the trash.

Brooke’s therapy apparently is taking hold — she admitted to Peyton about the attack, and is starting to take charge of her life again. Or so it seemed, until everyone started suggesting to her what she should do with her life. Millie set up a series of “healing” goals for Brooke to strive for: learning to skydive; learning to speak French, etc. Haley went all-out and persuaded Brooke to be a foster parent for Sam, the gal who shoplifted from her. (I can’t wait until we find out that Sam is the one who beat her face a few episodes ago. That’ll be an interesting home dynamic, no?)

Back on the court, Nathan gets a call from a team, asking him to suit up and try out as a player … but it’s a slamball league — complete with trampolines — that could seriously injure his back. But he wants to play, so he decides to give it a whirl, even though Haley has initial reservations. (Really, though, OTH had to find a way to play with his physical fragility once more. Now if they could only find a way to have Lucas’ heart condition be aggravated while he’s writing a novel …)

At this point, the one plot line that keeps cracking me up the most is the Deb/Skills pairing. It’s not that it’s so impossible, but it’s just so unlikely and improbable that it’s hilarious. With this week’s flower delivery from Dan, we’re inching closer to the scuffle that’s going to be great fun to watch Nathan deal with: the seemingly inevitable collision between Skills and Dan. Will they engage in fisticuffs? Will Dan’s heart give out at just that moment? Will Skills end up going to prison for manslaughter? I don’t know, but I hear they’re taking action on this fight in Vegas already.
