Scariest Scary Movie #26 – Children of the Corn

Children of the Corn (1984, Peter Horton, Linda Hamilton, R.G. Armstrong)

Outlander! We have your woman!

Quick Plot: A bunch of freaky looking kids form a corn-cult around an even freakier looking kid and murder every adult in town.

Scariest Scene: The opening sequence in the diner really starts this movie off with a meat cleaver to the chest. Or the scene when a demonic Isaac rises from the corn.

Final Say: Children of the Corn doesn’t rank the highest among King adaptations; it can be crude, somewhat distasteful, and definitely did not age well. But that is what makes this film completely awesome! It’s violent and silly and full of bloodthirsty children. The creepy man-child preacher, Isaac, is also fantastically disturbing and oddly compelling at the same time – like passing a traffic accident on the freeway, you don’t want to see, but you can’t look away.
