FSN Goes Back To "Baseball's Golden Age"

Posted by Cubicle QB

FSNFSN has been on a roll lately with its original programs, with Sport Science and Amazing Sports Stories, and now the announcement of Baseball’s Golden Age premiering July 6 at 8pm (local time). Baseball’s Golden Age uses recently discovered color home movies from the 1920s-1960s to tell the stories of some of the game’s biggest legends — Ruth, Cobb, Williams, Mays, Aaron — and their incomparable feats on the field. Each 30-minute episode contains remarkable rare shots and never-before-seen footage from films shot by fans, players’ families and the players themselves. Each episode includes interviews with baseball writers, broadcasters and former team employees reliving the bygone era of all-night train rides and five-cent hot dogs.

Among the hundreds of people interviewed for the 13-week series are Hall of Famers Johnny Bench, Ernie Banks, Al Kaline, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson and Bob Feller; All-Stars Steve Garvey, Luis Tiant, Ralph Branca, Johnny Pesky and Tommy Davis; great managers Tommy Lasorda, Whitey Herzog, Red Shoendienst and Joe Torre; announcers who are identified with their respective teams almost as much as the players are, legends Marty Brennaman from Cincinnati, Detroit’s Ernie Harwell, San Diego’s Jerry Coleman; plus such respected voices as FOX’s Joe Buck, Bob Costas and Tom Brokaw from NBC and CNN’s Larry King, noted baseball authors Leigh Montville and Roger Kahn and highly-regarded baseball fans such as former presidential candidate and mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani.

The July 6 premiere of Baseball’s Golden Age features segments on the sights and sounds of the game, a head-to-head comparison of Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams, never-before-seen footage of Babe Ruth, and a look at the Dodgers-Giants-Yankees New York rivalries.
