FSN’s Best Damn Sport Science Show Period

Is there any “hang” in Michael Jordan’s hang time?

What is a bigger target: an elite NFL receiver or an elephant?

Could you jump out of a second-story window without getting injured? (I’m going to find out right now.)

Questions such as these that have gnawed at your soul will finally be answered as FSN premieres Sport Science Sunday, Sept. 30 at 9pm. This new series of one-hour shows looks to explain sports stuff with science stuff. (Will they also explain why jock stuff and nerd stuff shouldn’t mix?) Sport Science uses motion-capture technology, CGI, high-speed cameras and biomechanical sensors to reveal stuff like impact force, acceleration, ballistics, muscles firing and so forth.

In the debut episode, Sport Science features NFL legend Jerry Rice, Bengals WR Johnson, street ball legend Chris “Skywalker” Lowery, Clippers guard Cuttino Mobley and Raiders RB Dominic Rhodes. Expect future appearances from U.S. Olympic legend Jennie Finch; NFL stars Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Leinart, Joey Porter, Luis Castillo, Maurice Jones-Drew and Chad Johnson; USA soccer star Abby Wambach; NBA stars Cuttino Mobley, Corey Maggette, Jason Kapono and Jordan Farmar; MMA stars “Rampage” Jackson and Bas Rutten; former heavyweight boxing champion Chris Byrd; MLB Gold Glove winner Steve Finley; and future NHL Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille. (Are they doing motorcycle crash tests with Roethlisberger?)

But wait, there’s more. From FSN:

Throughout the series, Sport Science will also examine sports’ hardest hitters, reaction times, how injuries affect athletes, the effect of weather on the game and if homefield really is an advantage. Plus, the show takes a look at the science behind the most impossible and improbable plays in sports history, determines what really is the hardest thing to do in sports and delivers a finite answer to the age-old question, “Does having sex before the big game really impact performance?”

If it doesn’t, then Tom Brady has wasted a lot of time.
