“Fore Inventors Only” Taps In For Par

GOLF CHANNEL’s reality competition series Fore Inventors Only has its live finale Sept. 4 at 10pm ET, and only one of the five remaining contestants’ inventions will win a marketing deal with GOLF CHANNEL and have their winning product sold in golf retail shops.

Viewers will decide who wins by voting online and can do so right up to the fourth segment of the finale.

Comedian George Lopez, who seemingly spends every waking moment at celebrity golf tournaments, will cohost the finale with GOLF CHANNEL’s Rich Lerner.

Here are the five products which made it to the finale:

Hill Shot Golf Trainer: A sloped hitting tee used for practicing uphill, downhill and side hill lies. Inventor: Brandi and Larry Koch, Prospect, Ky.

Club Glider: A golf travel bag that integrates extendable legs with caster wheels, making the bag easy to push or pull. The wheels fold back into a locked position for easy travel. Inventor: Gary Sherrell, Maple Valley, Wash.

Z-Factor Perfect Putting Machine: A portable putter training aid that guides the user through proper path, face, angle and pendulum swing of the putter. Inventor: Dean Thompson, Boise, Idaho.

Club Caddy: A clip that resembles a clothespin that attaches to a golf club around the green allowing it to become free-standing in an upright position. Inventor: David Jones, Martinez, Ga.

Pro Play Golf Performance System: A small digital recording device that can be used on the golf course to record golf swings for instant feedback. Inventors: Marcus Bohn, Chandler, Ariz., and Tim Kipley, McKinney, Texas.

My Vote: The Z-Factor Perfect Putting Machine. My putting stroke sucks. I think I read greens pretty well, but when it comes to finding a smooth, straight consistent stroke with the putter, I blow it. This thing looks like it would help, and it could be used to practice indoors or outdoors.

Update: David Jones’ Club Caddy invention won. The Club Caddy will receive shelf space at all Golfsmith stores throughout North America for one year; a fully developed infomercial and $50,000 worth of commercial and promotional air time on GOLF CHANNEL. I guess the key to inventing good stuff is to cater to the extremely lazy.
