7 Questions With … Chad Faust

1. What Has Been Your Strangest Fan Encounter?

Chad Faust: Here’s a funny one. It was from The 4400. I got this fan letter from a woman, and one of the things she said in it was that she thought that I was “capable of mass seduction.” Which I thought was … I mean … I guess a compliment! [laughs] Then I was in the makeup room, and [my costar] Joel [Gretsch] was reading this letter from a fan, and he goes, “This woman thinks I’m capable of mass seduction!” And it was the same woman!

2. You’re At A Magazine Rack And Can Pick Three Magazines. What Are They?

I really like Whonk magazine. I just did a feature for them; they’re great people. There’s this really great alternative living magazine called Abode. It’s all about different loft spaces, different alternative homes, stuff like that. It’s really cool. Third one would have to be something like GQ; I’m a traditional male on that.

3. Do You Have A Favorite Sports Team?

I’d probably go with the Vancouver Canucks, being a Vancouver guy.

4. When Was The Last Time You Were Starstruck?

It’s funny; I said this before I met him, that if I ever meet Ricky Gervais [of the original British version of The Office] I’ll be more starstruck than if I met Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Nicole Kidman in the same room. And … before the Emmys the first year of [The 4400], I went to the BAFTA tea party because our show airs in Britain. And not only Ricky Gervais, but Lucy Punch and Stephen Merchant, the co-creator of [The Office] … they were all there. When I went up and met Ricky Gervais, I was totally starstruck and nervous. And it turned out that he was a fan of The 4400.

5. If Your TV Only Carried Three Shows, Which Three Would You Want?

Reruns of Rome. Pretty much anything on PBS. And then, Arrested Development. Love that show, and mourn the loss of it.

6. When Was The Last Time You Felt Like Crying?

Daily! [laughs] Sometimes I like to cry right before an audition because it gets my ego out of the game. I remember one day I was shooting something, and it was a really emotional scene, and I was so frustrated because I wasn’t able to connect to the scene that I went into my trailer and cried. And it was sort of a physical release. Actually, I think the last time I did cry was right before this audition that I had for a movie, and it was one of the best auditions that I’ve had in a long time.

7. You Were Born And Raised In Victoria, On Vancouver Island. Do You Know The Motto Of Your Hometown?

No! [laughs] I know that more than half the population is over 55, so it might have something to do with that!

[It’s Semper Liber (“Always Free”).]

It doesn’t really seem appropriate, but … all right, I’ll take it.

Faust continues his role as Kyle Baldwin in the fourth season of the hit USA Network series The 4400, airing Sundays.
