Deion Sanders, Oxygen To Unleash Pestilence Upon Us

Like most sports fans, my Deion Sanders tolerance threshold was crossed sometime around 1995. Following his long, long overdue retirement from football, he’s continued to annoy me as an NFL TV studio analyst. But I never really had the urge to body slam or electrocute Deion … until he said this recently:

I believe [Michael] Vick had a passion for dogfighting. I know many athletes who share his passion. The allure is the intensity and the challenge of a dog fighting to the death. It’s like ultimate fighting, but the dog doesn’t tap out when he knows he can’t win.

Apparently, the folks at Oxygen don’t realize what a jackass Deion is (or maybe they do?), because he and his wife are going to star in a reality series for the female-targeted TV network, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

The tentatively titled Deion and Pilar Sanders: Prime Time Love stars Sanders, a former NFL and Major League Baseball player and the only athlete ever to play in a Super Bowl and World Series; his wife, Pilar, a former model; and their five kids, who live in the small town of Prosper, Texas. Pilar Sanders is described as a “glamorous, big-city girl” and “the ultimate fish-out-of-water” in the town, which has a population of 2,000. She is said to want to step out from underneath her husband’s shadow and strike out on her own, while he would rather she stay at home with the kids.

Anyone else taste vomit? Wait, it gets worse:

[Debby Beece, Oxygen’s president of programming and marketing] said “Sanders” provides an opportunity to draw new male viewers as well.

Any men who think they might watch this should immediately go get fitted for a bra, a straitjacket or both. And ladies, remember: Deion hates (and we suspect also eats) puppies. You’ve all been warned.
