The 4th OT: Into The “Ruff” Stuff

Hopefully you saw the review of the movie Ruffian in the June issue of Channel Guide Magazine. The ESPN Original Entertainment movie premieres Sunday on ABC/ABC HD and stars Sam Shepard and Frank Whaley. It’s based on the true story of Ruffian, considered to be the best thoroughbred filly of all time. It’s a good effort, and while I’m not a fan of the whole horse movie genre (I prefer the monkey genre), Ruffian kept my interest even though I knew it would have a Barbaro-type ending.

The 4th OT will be on vacation next week, as I’m cutting a rap album with Shaq and stalking looking for Anna Kournikova in South Beach for a few days. Here’s what’s on this weekend:

Tonight

Major League Baseball: Chicago Cubs at Atlanta Braves (TBS). Is there nothing more faithful than a Braves game on TBS?

Saturday

Tennis: French Open, Women’s Final from Roland Garros Stadium in Paris, France (NBC). Top seed Justine Henin faced seventh-seeded Ana Ivanovic of Serbia.

Major League Baseball: N.Y. Mets at Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros at Chicago White Sox or Oakland A’s at San Francisco Giants (FOX/FOX HD). Mets-Tigers was the World Series I was hoping for last fall. Meanwhile, FOX gets screwed out of Roger Clemens’ return … again!

Horse Racing: Belmont Stakes from Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y. (ABC). The smart money is on Hard Spun. So I’m putting $10 Large on Imawildandcrazyguy.

IRL IndyCar Series Bombardier Learjet 550K from Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth, Texas (ESPN2). IRL is billing this as the “Rumble at the Speedway, Round 2” featuring Dan “The Battlin’ Brit” Wheldon vs. Danica “The Phoenix Firebird” Patrick. I’m not kidding.

Sunday

Tennis: French Open, Men’s Final from Roland Garros Stadium in Paris, France (NBC). Will it be Raffy over Rog again?

Golf: McDonald’s LPGA Championship, Final Round from Havre de Grace, Md. (GOLF CHANNEL). There’s only one way to end this feud between Michelle Wie and Annika Sorenstam: tickle fight!

NASCAR Nextel Cup Pocono 500 from Long Pond, Pa. (TNT/TNT HD). TNT’s summer series of six straight Cup races starts Sunday at Pocono Raceway’s freaky 2.5-mile tri-oval.

NBA Finals: Cleveland Cavaliers at San Antonio Spurs, Game 2 (ABC/ABC HD). Is LeBron really mortal again?
