ESPN Classic knows every mother’s wish this Mothers’ Day is to enjoy a champagne brunch while watching seven hours of American Gladiators. (That’s how we roll at my mom’s house.) From ESPN:
ESPN Classic will feature the final seven episodes from Season 1 of the American Gladiators, culminating in the first ever champions. The seven-hour marathon will begin Sunday at 1 p.m. and will be hosted by former Gladiator Dan Clark, aka “Nitro.” The in-your-face Nitro was a Gladiator on the show from 1989 to 1992 and from 1994 to 1995, and was also a co-host of the show from 1995 through 1996.
NBA Playoffs: Utah Jazz at Golden State Warriors, Game 3 (ESPN). Down 2-0, the Warriors better start rebounding or this playoff ride is coming to an end very soon.
NHL Playoffs: Anaheim Ducks at Detroit Red Wings, Western Conference Finals Game 1 (Versus). I’m still picking my Wings, despite their key injuries. Should be a physical, low-scoring tight series.
PGA Tour: The Players Championship Third Round at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (NBC) Tiger Woods says the No. 17 island hole is “too gimmicky.” Sawgrass took offense, and didn’t give him any birdies in his first round.
NBA Playoffs: Cleveland Cavaliers at New Jersey Nets, Game 3 (ESPN) and Phoenix Suns at San Antonio Spurs, Game 3 (ABC). The Spurs have discovered Steve Nash’s weakness: his nose.
NASCAR Nextel Cup Dodge Avenger 500 from Darlington Raceway (FOX). Probably hold off on that full-body No. 8 tattoo. Shave it into your back hair instead.
NHL Playoffs: Ottawa Senators at Buffalo Sabres, Eastern Conference Finals Game 2 (Versus). Sens poured it on the Sabres 5-2 in Game 1 last night. The Sabres excel under pressure, but it won’t be good if they lose two at home.
Outside the Lines: Pregnant Pause (ESPN). Report from Julie Foudy on issues facing pregnant college athletes.
PGA Tour: The Players Championship Final Round at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (NBC) A Sports Illustrated survey of 71 PGA Tour players indicated that 82% of them prefer CBS’s Nick Faldo over NBC’s Johnny Miller. Look out, boys. Now you’ve made Johnny mad.
NBA Playoffs: Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls, Game 4 (ABC) and Utah Jazz at Golden State Warriors, Game 4 (TNT). The Pistons are going for their second series sweep by closing out the Bulls. Even when it looks like the Bulls could possibly win, they don’t.
Major League Baseball: Detroit Tigers at Minnesota Twins (ESPN). The pink bat accessorizes well with the rest of Gary Sheffield’s outfit.
