When Comedy Central announced that Jon Stewart’s successor on The Daily Show would be Trevor Noah, much of America responded with, “Who?” Noah, a 31-year-old standup comedian from South Africa and Daily Show contributor since 2014, has an incisive wit and an uncanny ability to expose deep-seated hypocrisy. At a standup performance in late July, Noah riffed on being a black guy being pulled over by police (“I don’t know how not to die.”), being an African on a U.S.-bound airliner during the Ebola outbreak, and the “charming racism” he encountered in the South. It will be a vastly different show with Noah behind the desk, but that’s not a bad thing. Noah says that the show will tackle the issues from a different view than his predecessor. “The issues are not really changing in America and in the world, so really it’s just a different angle that we are looking at things from, and it’s my angle, really, but the show still has its voice,” Noah says. The Daily Show With Trevor Noah premieres Monday, Sept. 28, at 11pm ET/PT on Comedy Central.
