MLB ON FOX LIGHTS THE NIGHT IN 2012

17th Season Highlighted by Eight Consecutive Saturday Primetime Dates Featuring All US Teams At Least Twice

New York & Los Angeles – MLB on FOX, the sport’s highest-rated and most-watched television package, today unveils its 17th FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK schedule highlighted by eight consecutive primetime dates, the most ever scheduled during the regular-season. During the stretch, all US-based teams appear at least twice beginning in May and continuing until the All-Star break.

Primetime coverage begins at 7:00 PM ET on those select nights and kicks off on Saturday, May 19 with five Interleague matchups including the Boston Red Sox taking on the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago White Sox facing their crosstown rival Chicago Cubs. The Phillies are back on Saturday, May 26 when they travel to St. Louis to take on the reigning World Champion Cardinals. The primetime schedule, which includes four Interleague dates, continues into June and culminates on Saturday, July 7 with a classic New York Yankees – Red Sox matchup in Fenway, while the Atlanta Braves play the Phillies and the Minnesota Twins take on the American League Champion Texas Rangers.

“We’re pleased that we were able work with our partners at Major League Baseball to develop our most extensive primetime schedule yet,” said FOX Sports Co-President and COO Eric Shanks. “Our hope is to increase viewership and by featuring so many teams, create additional exposure for the game’s many stars so they become more familiar to a broader fan base.”

MLB on FOX’s Opening Day schedule begins at 3:30 PM ET on Saturday, April 7 with a home run lineup featuring the last two World Series Champions. The Cardinals head to Milwaukee to face the Brewers in an NLCS rematch, while the San Francisco Giants go on the road against the NL West Champion Arizona Diamondbacks. Fans can also catch Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder and Bobby Valentine in their new uniforms as the Anaheim Angels host the Kansas City Royals and the Red Sox take on the Detroit Tigers.

In addition to 24 weeks of regular season coverage, FOX Sports airs the 83rd MLB All-Star Game from Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO, the National League Championship Series and the 108th World Series. During the first 16 years the FOX has been the primary broadcast network home  of MLB, FOX Sports has aired 14 World Series, 22 League Championship Series and 13 All-Star Games.

Over the first 24 weeks of the MLB season, the Red Sox, Cubs, Yankees and Giants are each scheduled to make a maximum nine appearances on FOX in 2012. The Rangers along with the Angels, Braves, Mets and are scheduled to appear eight times. The World Champion Cardinals appear seven times as are the Phillies.

The final two Saturdays of the regular season are designated as “wild card” dates, allowing FOX Sports and MLB to choose games of postseason significance each Saturday.

David Hill and Eric Shanks are the Executive Producers of FOX Sports. Don Bui serves as pregame producer. Pete Macheska is coordinating producer of FOX Sports’ Major League Baseball coverage. Bill Webb is lead director.

  1. I am watching the NL championship on Fox and cannot understand their decision to not show the strike zone on pitches. It must go along with their decision to use McCarver. TBS does such a better job. If Fox wants to stay in the 80’s they are going to lose viewers.

  2. Some news from MLB that will make MLB Extra Innings subscribers happy (starting in 2014): “Games included in the FOX Saturday national exclusive windows, which were previously blacked out to MLB Extra Innings and MLB.TV viewers, will be available beginning in 2014.”

  3. I concur with all of the compaints about the Saturday schedule. The Tigers are in the hunt and the black outs drive me crazy. It’s has happened over and over recently when you really want to see the games that count. I live in Oklahoma, want to watch the Tigers and Twins on Saturday but NO,IT’S BLACKED OUT. Sucks.Must be all about the freak’n advertisng bucks!

  4. Yet again I will get screwed because my team will probably clinch their division today and of course I will not get to watch it!!!!!!!!!!!!! I pay for the mlb package on directv so I can watch my out of market team but because of where I live a different team is my “local” team and they play on Fox today too so I can’t watch MY team!!!!!!!! HATE THIS!!!!! Please fix this some way!!!!

    • I love to watch Fox newscasts of MLB games, but Ginny is right. Last Saturday, I was not able to watch the Detroit Tigers because it was the listed game, but in our area another game was playing. I have paid a lot for MLB Extra Innings and Fox closes them out, so I can not watch my favorite teams and it will happen again this Saturday. I would rather watch Fox Detroit, but I can not get it where I live. Is there any thing we can do?

  5. Re-Scheduling the game times has ruined baseball. We look forward to the season all year. Going out and watching a Saturday night game has been a tradition for us. Now all of our Saturday games have been switched to 4:00. I want to sit and have a couple beers and watch my game, but I don’t want to start at 4:00. You suck Fox!!

  6. The satrday nite games suck. There’s better things goin on on a satrday nite. Satrday day games are much better to watch. There’s nuthing else TO watch on satrday days in the summer.

  7. I agree with ALL the other comments. I pay for the MLB package and hate when I can’t watch MY team play!!!!! They are not my local team, precisley why I pay for the MLB package!!!

  8. Fox has ruined MLB on Saturday for many years… there should be a law against it (and probably is). MLB.com and direct TV extra innings are useless on Saturday’s. MLB should not tolerate this!!! I hate all the teams they show in my area. Fox is a four letter word with me!

  9. I agree!!!! Why do they have to select more than one game? All it does is screw the baseball fan that doesn’t live in their favorite teams market. I pay lots of money to watch every Orioles game and now my saturday game is messed up. It’s not the same on the radio!!!

  10. NO real baseball fan is ever going to love fox until they stop ruining baseball on Saturdays. If your team gets hot there is nothing worse than to find out your team is selected by fox to play but not on your TV.
for all of us real fans who pay extra for our teams we resent the hell out your intrusion on our sport. you don’t add a thing to the sport only take away from it. enjoy the karma you receive.

  11. The background noise from the crowd was so
annoying during the Rangers game on Sat. The
announcers couldn’t even be heard. Very distracting!

  12. I agree with Gabriel. FOX never shows Braves games in San Diego, which means that every time they carry a Braves game my MLB.com package is useless because of blackout restrictions.

  13. Why can’t you at Fox just pick one GAME and show it instead of 3 or 4 games I pay alot of money on the MLB package so I can watch every game
of my favorite team play except on Saturday because it is always BLACKOUT.
