When HGTV Magazine hits newsstands Oct. 4, it’s expected to make a big splash. But for those who just can’t wait to pick up their copy, HGTV is offering a sneak peek on TV, taking a look at how the first issue came together. HGTV: The Making of Our Magazine — airing tonight at 7 — features exclusive behind-the-scenes access as the editors brainstorm story ideas, plan photo shoots and interview the network’s biggest starts in an effort to make sure the new publication starts strong.

Genevieve Gorder (Dear Genevieve) hosts, and she’ll introduce viewers to editor-in-chief Sara Peterson, formerly of Coastal Living, whose job it is to translate the HGTV brand into print. The first two issues of the magazine will heavily feature HGTV experts, who will also appear in the special. They include David Bromstad, Vern Yip, Bob and Cortney Novogratz, Sabrina Soto and others.

Gorder and Peterson will co-host a live Twitter party during the premiere of the special starting at 7pm, and viewers who wish to join in can use #HGTVMag. The special also will get encore airings later that evening at 11pm Saturday, 9am Friday, Oct. 7, and 4pm Saturday, Oct. 15.
